Best value Ultra Wide Angle for DX
I needed a UWA for my D90, and I was long time undecided between the Sigma 10-20mm and the Nikon 10-24mm (about twice expensive), so I rented both and carefully compared. The pictures from the Sigma 10-20mm ended up same quality or slightly better, a little sharper at the wider focal length, with...- Sharp lens
- fast AF
- compact and well built
- Moderate vignetting - not worse than competition
"Sigma 10-20mm - pro quality at amateur price"
The Sigma 10-20mm EX lens is a low-to-mid priced lens, aimed at the amateur/enthusiast market and available in the usual Canon and Nikon mounts. I own the Canon-fit, so all information contained in this review is in relation to that lens.- excellent image quality
- sturdy build
- great price
- relatively slow aperture
- slight softness in mid-range of zoom
[REVIEW-SIGMA 10-20mm EX DC HSM Lens]
This wide angle zoom lens, with a film equivalent focal length range of 15 to 30mm, is one of Sigma's superior line of zooms. The HSM refers to the hypersonic focus motor, which is indeed very fast and very quiet. The lens construction is superb and typical of Sigma's better lenses.- The lens is remarkably free of objectionable distortions
- In fact at 10mm distortion is only extreme and noticeable in the corners, if you look hard
- Resolution and general sharpness are excellent
- And the auto focus is a delight.
- There is little to criticise about the lens
- Vignetting is apparent, but that is also par for the type
- And it is easy enough to remove in Photoshop
Good ultra wide lens for the value
This is a great lens for its cost. The counterpart Canon or Nikon costs near 1k. It gives you super wide angle. The build is solid. The HSM focus is very fast. One weak point is the F/4-5.6 aperture. At the 24mm, F5.6 make it not a fast lens.- Solid design
- ultra wide angle
- reasonable price
- Small aperture
- only good for DX format
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM review
At the budget end of the market, Sigma and Tamron are the major scrappers and Sigma's 10-20mm lens is the cheaper of the two. Despite its low cost compared with lenses from Nikon and Canon, the Sigma feels robust and has silent HSM autofocus.
Has it's uses, but not good where a flash is required
I bought this for two reasons... first so that I could better capture landscapes on family vacations.... I always hated the fact that my pictures never truely reflected the width of the view that I was seeing. I also bought it hoping to get better indoor event pictures (kids birthday parties, etc).- Great for landscape pictures
- Don't try to use this indoors or for close pictures that require a flash
Sigma AF 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC (Pentax K) - Review / Test Report
The Sigma AF 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC showed an pretty impressive performance with a few bugs. The resolution characteristic is generally very good to excellent except in the extreme corners at 10mm which are a bit soft at large aperture settings.
Love it
I have had this lens for a week or so now and really love it. I picked it up to try to get a more artistic view of images, I wanted that distortion that this kind of lens affords. When you use it to your advantage the subject is pulled in such an iteresting way.- Awesome field of view
- love the distortion
- gets a little soft at edges at 10mm but to be expected
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Review
Sigma makes this lens for a variety of mounts, but only the Nikon, Canon and Sigma mount versions have the HSM, or Hyper Sonic Motor function – Pentax and Sony versions don't. Otherwise the lens is constructed from fourteen elements in ten groups.- Lack of critical sharpness
- poor control over chromatic aberrations
- Good build quality
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Review
Very good resolution but prone to fringing...- Lack of critical sharpness
- poor control over chromatic aberrations
- Good build quality
