. I truly enjoyed shooting with that lens and if I was in the market for an 85mm prime, Sigma would get my money. An 85mm lens is great for portraits but I, like many other people, find 50mm to be a more useful focal length for everyday shooting.

Stunning

I bought this lens mainly for portrait photography. I like it better than the canon version. I checked the reviews and photo samples of this lens and I must say, it's true enough that it is a nice lens.

Bought this lens for the great bokeh and sharpness. I tried it on Nikon D700 and quiet happy with a result. The glass is heavy and massive ,but the filling is right on.Fast and furious :)

Well, it took two tries to get a properly operating one. The first had serious issues; If I micro adjusted for shooting in the portrait range, it was way out at about 30 feet. If I micro adjusted for 30 feet, it was way out in portrait range.
Pros:
  • Dreamy bokeh
  • sharp right from wide open
Cons:
  • AF issues

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM lens review

Gary Wolstenholme takes a look at this fast f/1.4 aperture standard lens suitable for full frame and crop sensor DSLRs.
Pros:
  • Excellent sharpness in the centre at most apertures
  • Low vignetting
  • 77mm
Cons:
  • Maybe a little softer than I'd hoped at f/1.4
  • Heavier than any other 50mm f1.4 lens
  • Bigger than any other 50mm f/1.4 lens

For portraits and bokeh this lens is top

This lens has opened some doors for me with its f1.4 capabilities. I was trying to decide between this and the two more affordable canon 50mm lenses. Ultimately I sold myself on this output quality from this lens.
Pros:
  • Low Light
  • Nice Bokeh
  • Rugged
  • Sharpness
  • Strong Construction
Cons:
  • Inconsistent focus

Sigma AF 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM (Canon) - APS-C Review / Test Report

The new Sigma AF 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM is a refreshing alternative in the long-ignored standard AF lens market. The lens is fairly big and heavy due to unusually big glass elements but thanks to the design efforts it is already capable of delivering sharp images straight from f/1.4 and the resolution...
