a good 50mm for canon

My biggest disappointment is very inconsistent AF performance - same picture taken twice from the same position - one is in perfect focus, second is completely soft. Huge vignetting at f/1.4. My first and last attempt buying third party lens. Nothing compare to Canon 50 f/1.2.

Sigma has added to their 'Art' range of fast aperture lenses with this new 50mm f/1.4 lens, which will be available to fit Canon, Nikon, Sony and Sigma SLR cameras. This lens costs around ￡850, which seems like an awful lot for a 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Back when we originally tested the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG AF lens , the first in Sigma's new high-end Art series to be released, we weren't just impressed, we were eager to see what would come next.

Although zoom lenses are certainly versatile and convenient, they do have some drawbacks, including relatively small maximum apertures.

This is one sharp and contrasty lens! Even wide open the central portion of the image is totally usable. Stop the lens down to f/2 and most of the frame is super sharp. From f/2.8 it's tack sharp from corner to corner. Colour and contrast are excellent too.

If you shoot a lot at wide apertures (1.4 to 2.8) no 50 can beat it. I\'m still amazed when I chimp my images. As an old Leica-M shooter, I have a style that relies on lenses in the 28mm to 75mm range. My basic lens is the 18-35 Art, and this 50 is my \"long\" lens.

Sigma has been the darling of the lens world recently, producing high-performance products at reasonable prices. Its latest is the 50mm f/1.4 Art series lens, a long awaited addition to their line that we recently had the pleasure of trying out. You're not going to find much more lens for the price.
