Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.4 DC Macro Lens Review

Over the last year or so, Sigma have gradually been updating their lenses to fit into their 'Art', 'Sport' and 'Contemporary' lens lines. The 18-200mm range is popular amongst those who own a camera with an APS-C sensor and wish to travel light, with the convenience of a large 11.1x zoom range.
Pros:
  • Good optical performance for a super zoom lens
  • Well built
  • Lightweight
  • Compact
  • Optical stabiliser
  • Compatible with Sigma USB dock
  • Good value
Cons:
  • Sloppy manual focusing action with no full-time manual override
  • CA levels at 18mm when stopped down

All-in-one super-zoom lenses are all classically huge and heavy. Made to do everything and be a master at nothing, these extremely wide focal length lenses have historically only offered only decent image quality.

Very practical for travel, children and, in my case (I have two wide angles), using it as telephoto. The lens is very well built, but the focus ring is a little loose. Sharpness is pretty good if you stop down, but wide open could be better.

Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM C Lens Review

The perfect lens does not exist. There is no lens that covers an extreme range of focal lengths, has an ultra-wide aperture, has incredible build quality but remains small and light, has amazing image quality at all available settings – and is inexpensive.

An excellent go around lens.

I bought it used in almost new condition. I needed a go around lens to take with me on a 2 weeks trip to Europe. I shoot with Sigma SD14 DSLR and own 6 different lenses by Sigma to go with it. This one easily replaces 3 of them. So I don't have to carry extra weight.

an excellent quality lens with great value for money

i love this lens, i used one for 3 years, full time, 5 days a week and have only just replaced it for the updated model with minor upgrades. it is robust, very well built, and even survives the most cringing of impacts.
Pros:
  • Easy to use
  • Build quality
  • Battery life
Cons:
  • Bulky

GREAT DEAL!!!

I recently returned from a trip to NYC.I used the lens non-stop during the trip.I never had any complaints and still don't to this day.It is a GREAT lens for the money. Are there better lenses on the market, of course, but they are not under 400 dollars.I in no way can justify spending nearly double...
Pros:
  • Consistent Output
  • Durable
  • Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Strong Construction
Cons:
  • Heavy
  • Lens Creep
