Sigma 150–500mm f/5–6.3 APO DG OS HSM
Sigma continues to innovate with their 150–500mm f/5–6.3 APO DG OS HSM ultra-telephoto lens. While designed for full-frame sensors, it's equally at home when used with smaller APS-C sensors. That's a lot of flexibility for one lens.
Pros:
- Wide focal length latitude
- optical stabilization
- reasonably priced
Cons:
- Not the best choice for consistent low-light work

Sigma APO 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens – Review
When you take a look at a decent telephoto zoom lens reaching 500mm in focal length you expect it to be weighty, and Sigma's APO 150-500mm lens is no exception. This lens is designed to work on full-frame cameras and it's easy to see why once it's mounted, as it really needs a weighty camera body to...
Pros:

- Overall sharp images
- Good price
Cons:
- Maximum aperture f5.6-f.3
- Weighty

After one week with the Sigma 150-500mm OS, even with the smaller aperture range of f5 to 6.3, this lens exceeds my expectations. In fact, it gave me such good results that I put my 100-400mm IS L Canon up for sale.
Pros:
- Good reach
- quiet focus
- manual override
- works well with extenders
Cons:
- Can focus hunt
- OS makes some noise
- Canon 40D has reported problems with lens

Just purchased the 150-500mm Sigma for my wife's Nikon. I felt compelled to test it against the 3 similar lenses we have. Here are the results, in order of image quality: At 300mm, f8: Sigma 150-500 Nikkor 300 f/4 Nikkor 70-300 vr Nikkor 55-300 vr The 300 f/4 and the Sigma were very close.
Pros:
- My tests show better than the Nikon 55-300 vr
- 70-300 vr
- 300 f4 (with and without a 1.4x TC
Cons:
- None yet

Affortable and Qualtive Alternative to Nikon Lens
There are not many choices in the market for 500 mm lens. All but a few are prime. This lens offers the convenience of zoom lens with focal length varying from 150 to 500 mm. Its image quality is excellent from 150 to 300 mm but gradually degrades toward the 500 mm end.
Pros:
- HSM
- OS
- well built and relatively inexpensive 500mm lens
Cons:
- Slightly worse image quality above 400mm
- OS needs about one-second to engage, not immediately effective
