Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Review

Sigma's 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM is the lens to get if a 70-200mm f/2.8 just isn't long enough, but you'll need a strong back to lug it. (4.5 out of 5) Editor's Choice Pros Wide f/2.8 aperture throughout zoom range Impressive telephoto reach Very sharp Minimal distortion Excellent build quality...

Wide f/2.8 aperture throughout zoom range; Impressive telephoto reach; Very sharp; Minimal distortion; Excellent build quality; Compatible with USB dock

Expensive; Very large and heavy; Huge front element increases filter costs

Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM

The Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM ($3,599 direct) isn't a lens for the faint of heart. The zoom, which is compatible with full-frame and APS-C camera bodies and is available in Canon, Nikon, and Sigma mounts, brings new meanings to the words big and heavy.

REVIEW: Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM S Lens Review

This 2.5x zoom lens sports a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, silent focusing and optical stabilisation. It slots into Sigma's 'Sports' range of lenses and is especially interesting as the zoom range is similar to that of a 70-200mm lens with a 1.4x teleconverter fitted, whilst maintaining a fast...

Stunning lens and in many ways.

OK you know a 300mm F2.8 is going to be heavy, that is a given and since you know that up front it is not a negative.First of all I needed this for a trip to Alaska, Adorama got to me a day early. Woohoo to them. The lens is remarkable for several reasons.

Lovely image quality and build

This was bought to be my new wildlife lens teamed with a 2x Sigma teleconverter on a full frame Nikon D600. Just returned from a safari (I had one days practice with the lens before leaving the Uk for South Africa) and I must say my fears of it being too heavy and the image quality being compromised...

Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports

required no "focus adjustment" out of its box on delivery on a D4s or D810, at least for me. I sold my Nikon 300/2.8 VR to purchase this dense chunk of optics. except for the added weight (near 0.4 lbs) this outperforms the prime due to its overall versatility. works well with the Sigma 1.4x TC.

Sharp; Accurate

Heavier then a Prime 300/2.8 but does more; lens foot mount needs a little rethink but adequate

Excellent Lens! 4.5 Rating

This lens is a beast. I have a Canon 300 that I absolutely love, but as a single shooter following the ball at a baseball or fast pitch softball game, the 300mm is too much for a good part of the time. The 120-300 range is great. Used it with a 1Dx and 7Dm2. Used with a canon 1.4iii as well.
