Sennheiser HD800 review

Sennheiser's strongest suit of late has been upper-midrange headphones including the award-winning HD650, at around £300, which are a popular choice with audiophiles and professionals alike, and now Sennheiser have released the HD800 priced at a whopping £1000.

Soundstage to die for...

Spectacular sound and staging, as you'd expect for the price I guess, but they do sound amazing, especially when driven by a good headphone amp, I'm using the Ray Samuels MR-2. SACDs are great, but even regular Red Book CDs are brought to life.
Pros:
  • Comfortable
  • Durable
  • Good Bass
  • Great Sound
  • Stylish

Sennheiser HD 800

It's not every day that we get to try on an exceptional pair of headphones--but is the HD 800 really that special?
Pros:

  • Sound even clearer than on Sennheiser's last market-leader
  • the HD 650
Cons:

Review: Sennheiser HD800s Are A Serious Bit Of HiFi Kit

If your audio knows no budget, these cans will cocoon you in a sea of phonic bliss. The HD800s are some of the top Hi-Fi headphones around if you've got the quality tracks and components to run them.
Pros:
  • Great sound quality
  • Pushes to high volume without ever distorting
Cons:
  • Leaks sound very loudly
  • will only really get the premium taste out of Hi-Fi components and a dedicated headphone amplifier
  • steep price over $2000
