Sennheiser HD800
Sennheiser's latest and greatest headphones are put to the test. The HD800s created quite a fuzz when released, not only were they one of the most expensive headphones launched last year, they were also the most anticipated ones.

Sennheiser HD800 Headphones HD 800 Audiophile Headphone
Well before we get into the review I would like to introduce my setup. I used the HD800 with a Woo Audio 6 and with a Creek OBH-11 amp. The sourse was a Bel Canto DAC 2 coupled to a Sony Es changer. Cables used were transparent audios interlink series. The HD800 were tested with the stock cables.

Sennheiser's previous flagship reference headphones (HD650) have been an important part of this writer's hi-fi system since 2006; they've been in heavy use and they sound as amazing now as they did on day one. Would the new top of range Sennheiser HD800s really improve on the 650s?

Sennheiser HD 800 Headphones
We finally got in the Sennheiser HD 800s. They aren't the most expensive headphones we've reviewed, but they're certainly some of the most hyped. We first heard these back at CES , and we've been waiting to get in a review copy ever since.

PRICING NOTE While the RRP of the HD 800s is offically $1999, we regularly see them at $1599 and below. Always double check, however, that you're getting a properly Australian-distributed pair - grey imports may still deliver the genuine item, but your local warranty may be affected.

Review: Sennheiser HD800s Are A Serious Bit Of HiFi Kit
If your audio knows no budget, these cans will cocoon you in a sea of phonic bliss. The HD800s are some of the top Hi-Fi headphones around if you've got the quality tracks and components to run them.
Pros:
- Great sound quality
- Pushes to high volume without ever distorting
Cons:
- Leaks sound very loudly
- will only really get the premium taste out of Hi-Fi components and a dedicated headphone amplifier
- steep price over $2000

Sennheiser does it again, upping the sound and build quality from its legendary HD 650 cans to deliver a majestic sonic experience that has to be heard to be believed. However, you’ll need a great system to extract the full £1000 of value from them.

Sennheiser HD800 headphones
Which brings us to a sticky question: Would I spend my money on a pair of $1400 headphones when I own the combo of AKG K701 and Cardas Fatpipe? Probably not-these are tough economic times, and editors aren't ringing my phone off the hook. I would if I could, but I can't. Should you ? That depends.
