Tried 2 of these with no luck

Hard to rate something that doesn't really work that well. But we bought our first and when connected to WIFI, that was fine. But as soon as we tried to transfer anything to it either over the network or physically via USB, it would disconnect our wifi and nothing would get moved.
Pros:
  • no pros
Cons:
  • didn't work not once
  • but twice

These things have a very high defect rate. if you do get a working one, it won't work for very long. then theres the connectivity problems and dlna problems. Another issue the warranty which begins from the date of manufacture, so you ain't going to get a full 2 years.

This product is a bit difficult to setup, and needs a lot of patients as it is very slow.once I got it up and running, while using it,it suddenly disappears from the device list and then you have to close and reopen the program.

Inconsistent

I bought this as a file sharing tool for our home business and have had nothing but trouble with it. At first it was great, setting it up was easy and we could all access the files through the network or remotely. About a month in started having issues.

Good Value but not for the faint hearted!

Seagate obviously have a background in hard drives and supplying to the computer "savvy" computer/server builder market for use by people who are used to incorporating them in builds for retail. Therein lies a drawback with this Personal Cloud.

Drive was easy to connect, but backup software too limited. You can't select system files so i couldn't backup programs or Outllook E-mail accounts. Backup over 10/100 network using ethernet at 100 speed wasn't fast and took nearly 3 days to copy 646Gb. One desktop only! 8 devices to go!

Excellent back up drive

Don't listen to other reviews that say talk about how difficult this is to set up. It takes 30 seconds and I have both a PC and a Mac hooked up. Very fast access even over Wifi. I only use it to back up photos/music on.
