Died
10 days out of warranty the drive died. Used sparingly. Plugged it into several computers and none of them would see it. Seagate offered no help except to say it was out of warranty. Not a very good backup drive if you can't trust it to run when you need it. I'll go with WD next time.
Seagate Backup Plus Portable
The Portable comes with a USB 3.0 connector which can be detached (exposing SATA data and power connectors) and swapped for a Firewire 800 or Thunderbolt connector, making it a tempting proposition for those concerned about future-proofing and backwards compatibility.- Fast
- optional adaptors
- Bulky Thunderbolt adaptor
Seagate Backup Plus 500GB review
Whatever Seagate is doing to make its drive go fast it's working. Like its 1TB compatriot in the super-sized portables group the Backup Plus 500GB left nearly every other drive in its wake when it came to our performance tests. In fact this was the fastest portable drive we've tested.- Great backup software blazingly fast

Really nice portable notebook drive. I love the finish on the case. A little worried that the adapter connection to the hard drive might get loose over time, but other then that it is an awesome product. If i have the chance, i'll probably purchase another in the future.
- usb 3.0
- nice finish on the case
- reputable brand
- worried the adapter connection to the hard drive might get loose over time
Almost too easy to use?
Just got this recently and have backed up my laptop a couple of times. Seems almost too easy and too fast... not sure if I've done it properly but it says that everything was backed up! Would highly recommend it!

Seagate Backup Plus Portable review: A stunning 5TB of space
All things being otherwise equal, 5TB of capacity is better than 4TB. Things aren't entirely equal in this case, but close enough that the $140...- Up to 5TB in a 2.5-inch package
- Affordable
- Slow writing small files and folders
Review: Seagate Backup Plus Portable
A hard drive is a hard drive is a hard drive. Unless you're a deep study, the differences between competing portable storage drives seem minute, and few things influence purchasing decisions more than capacity and price.- Software makes it very easy to back up photos from Facebook and Flickr (Seagate says more services are on the way) with just a few clicks
- Drive's modular connector lets you swap interface types
- Build is light, but case is solid enough to be tossed into a backpack
- Price is right
- 2-year warranty
- Disparity in software features between Mac and Windows
- Only a difference between 500GB and 1TB, so there's no reason to buy the lower-capacity drives
- Seagate's cloud storage service, which this drive can interact with, is pricey and seems unnecessary given the wealth of cloud-based options on the...
