seemed easy to use at first, and now I can't back up anything without buying their software online. so glad I bought this one. i owned an older version of this and it still works great, but the backup plus seems to be the problem.

Same problem as others - my computer doesn't recognize the drive
I have the same problem others have experienced: the computer just doesn't recognize the drive any more. I backed up a lot of my stuff on it, had no problems, worked fine for the 10 hours or so I used it to make the backup.

Works until it dies then your SOL
Great to use for a backup if you do not need the information on it. Or if you have an extra $600.00 lying around to pay seagate to try and get the information back, if it's even possible. It's the last Seagate product I'll ever buy.
Pros:
- It worked good for a year
- then it died
Cons:
- Mine died today, a mechanical drive failure
- And all my information is gone

Problem copying files with long names
A good product, however a problem is that it does not copy files with longer file names. This means that when one wants to make a safety copy of a large number of files, one has to revisit all the files that one wants to copy because not all files get copied.

Poor quality hard drive
I used this as a backup for my photography, after 5 months it started freezing my computer and eventually failed completely. It crashed my Macbook Pro twice and actually crashed the tech company's computer, too. Lost everything on it. Don't invest in this hard drive.

Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive Review
This drive isn't marketed as shock-proof and rugged. Nor does it come with a rubberized sleeve. I guess it can withstand minor shocks, but it's better to be safe than sorry and use a carry case.
