This 27in monitor is detailed, has wide viewing angles and a great anti-glare coating
The Samsung Series 8 (S27A850T) is a 27in LED edge-lit LCD monitor using Samsung's proprietary PLS panel tech. This monitor may be expensive at $1099, but its image quality is impressive.
Pros:
- Good detail at native resolution
- Excellent viewing angles
- High quality AG coating
Cons:
- Expensive
- Wobbly pivot hinge
- No analog audio input

Samsung Series 8 SyncMaster S27A850T
Samsung's SyncMaster S27A850T is an incredibly pretty, thin monitor, which proves that PLS is a viable IPS alternative. We did find some banding in gradients, and the HDMI movie performance isn't great, but for beautiful sharp imagery and high-level computer use, it's incredibly appealing.
Pros:
- PLS proves itself as a viable alternative to IPS
- Incredibly thin
- Good blacks
- Power-saving features
- Energy frugal
- Incredible height adjustment
- Allows 90-degree vertical rotation
Cons:
- Pricey compared to the competition
- Some banding and discolouration in gradients
- HDMI port doesn't cope well with interlaced content or judder

Samsung Series 8 S27A850D review
We have a habit of relentlessly banging the TN-vs-the-rest drum. But we do it because we care. Both about technology and your very fine elves. Sorry, selves. Samsung's all-new S27A850D has us at something of a disadvantage. Many of its on-paper specs are thoroughly familiar.

Samsung's SyncMaster S27A850D is the first of a new breed. It shares the same 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution as many high-end 27in monitors, but the panel technology is new: Samsung's latest marks the debut of its own Plane-to-Line Switching, or PLS, panel technology.

Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D
The S27A850D's adjustable stand and 2,560x1,440 resolution are all good, but it's the new PLS panel, with its amazing contrast and colours

Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D review
We don't normally review monitors that cost over £500, but Samsung's S27A850D is no ordinary monitor; as well as an impressive features list - a 2,560x1,440 resolution, fully-adjustable stand and three-way USB3 hub - it's the first monitor we've seen using Samsung's new Plane-to-Line Switching (PLS)...

Very nice 27 inch monitor
A very nice 27 inch monitor, the HAS stand is very convenient as well as a Usb 3.0 hub. Very easy to make the connections from the side at the rear of the monitor. The on screen menu is very easy to use and the control buttons are on the bottom center of the screen.
Pros:
- HAS stand
- Usb 3.0 hub
- PLS screen
- easy access to menu buttons
- cable connections from the side at rear of monitor
- eco mode
- simple on screen menu system
- 2560 X 1440 resolution
Cons:
- Screen set to max brightness out of box
- requires calibration

I spend hours on end at the computer nearly everyday. So I need a monitor that has the best resolution that I can get. I had a tube type Professional Viewsonic for many years, but it gave out. Now I was forced to go with a flat panel monitor. I tried four in all.

Great clear picture
I'm not sure who said that LCD/LED tv's are better. I have 2 LCD and 1 LED and it doesn't even compare to the picture on the Samsung Plasma. The picture, when watching, feels like you are there. Fantastic picture. Very good. Louder than any of my other tv's.
