Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 40mm SM-R500

The newest Samsung Galaxy sport watch is known as Galaxy Watch Active. Will the new features and enhancements make this an active mover in the marketplace? Early indications suggest it will.

Bye bye bezel

The first change you'll notice is the removal of the rotating bezel used in its predecessors. Instead, the Active is operated by touchscreen and two low-profile buttons on the edge of the watch.

Less bulk, more comfort

The Active is slimmer and more streamlined than its predecessors, making it a superbly comfortable watch to wear. The stretchy strap adds to the comfort, and it also allows the Active to be laid flat on a surface, meaning you can use the watch’s wireless charging facility to top up the battery on any charging pad.

A super-sporty smartwatch

The Galaxy Watch Active is a fitness-orientated smartwatch, so you can expect it to monitor every core activity you're into. Steps, calories, heart rate and sleep are all tracked, while the built in GPS means you can monitor runs and bike rides without needing a smartphone. Its excellent water-resistant qualities make it perfect for swimmers too.

It does everything else too

Like a great smartwatch should, the Watch Active has music playback controls via Spotify, smartphone notifications, and NFC for contactless payment. Samsung is also excited to announce a choice of 60,000 different watch faces! The new dual-core 1.1GHz processor will keep everything humming along nicely, and should extend the battery life.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active

While the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active doesn't have any breakthrough features that set it apart from the Apple Watch or the Fitbit Versa, it costs significantly less than the Apple Watch and is arguably more attractive than the Versa.

Lightweight, stylish design; Lots of functionality for the price

Thick, stationary bezel; Shorter battery life than Galaxy Watch

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review

In the deluge of all the new Samsung products announced during Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2019 , you may have missed the Galaxy Watch Active , the company's latest smartwatch. This would be a shame because it's actually a very versatile wearable.

Design and size will suit most wrists; Two straps included; Software is smooth and slick; Comprehensive fitness and health tracking; Heart rate sensor

No rotating bezel; Strong competition

Hands on: Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review

Rumoured and leaked almost as much as the S10 phones it launched alongside, the Watch Active is the second of Samsung's smartwatches to sport the "Galaxy" name. While the underlying experience it offers bears some resemblance to the vanilla , the Active marks a turning point for Samsung's wearables...

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active

The new wearable sits just below the existing Galaxy Watch in the company's lineup and it tries to take much of what made that device the best smartwatch in the world – according to TechRadar – and give it a bit of an extra sporty edge.

Premium feel design; Tizen software has matured

No rotating bezel; Only one size

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active review: less fun but still a good time

Samsung's latest smartwatch drops the rotating bezel, but it gets most basics right

Comfortable; lightweight design; Reliable battery life; Good fitness-tracking features

Bixby is a poor voice assistant; Clumsy to use with non-Samsung phones; Fewer third-party apps than other smartwatches

Samsung's New Smartwatch Is Almost Perfect, But Its Health Tracking Is a Disaster

Overall good, wish battery life is better

I had the Galaxy Watch 46mm, but that was way too big. I wish Active is slightly bigger so it can have a bigger battery capacity. The battery goes down to 50-60% after 1 full day of light use. So I have to charge it every night to make sure it doesnt drain completely.
