Samsung Galaxy S9 review - "A worthy addition or a small iteration on the S8"

Junk

Verdict: Bought as upgrade/replacement for s7 edge that broke while travelling in europe. Battery life sucks, narrower body is awkward to use, lack of home button makes it more difficult to operate. On the plus side, the camera is a big step up for low light pictures but it's poor value for money.

Samsung Galaxy S9 review: Can you put a price on perfection

4.0
Pros: The fastest Android phone we've ever seen, Amazing low-light camera, Slick features
Cons: Doesn't do enough to better last year's Galaxy S8
Verdict: Just like the S8 before it, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is the best phone in the world, with lightning-fast performance, a stupendous camera and a lovely design. Unfortunately, it hasn't done enough to surpass its predecessor, which is still almost as impressive whilst being significantly cheaper.

Samsung Galaxy S9 – Review

4.4
Verdict: After my time with the S9 I have to admit there is a lot to like, and a few things that could use a little improvement here or there. From the front, this looks exactly like the older model the S8, and some people will not like the fact their expensive new smartphone looks the same as their friends...

Verdict: The Samsung Galaxy S9 is smaller than the Galaxy S9+, and that's a good thing. The single-camera setup at the rear keeps up on most counts with the dual-camera setup on the S9+. There's also less RAM on the Samsung Galaxy S9, but on the face of it that doesn't really matter.

Pros: + Brilliant screen, + Very powerful, + Good camera
Cons: - Overly familiar, - Disappointing battery, - Expensive
Verdict: But the battery life leaves much to be desired and there is a sense that the Galaxy S9 is overly familiar. Plus, you can get a phone that's better in almost every sense if you can stretch to the Galaxy S9 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy S9

Pros: Impressive design; Bright and crisp display; Great all round camera; High powered processor
Cons: Bixby still meh; Not a huge step up from S8
Verdict: Last year Samsung didn't unveil a Galaxy smartphone at MWC 17, instead focusing on its manufacturing standards and unveiling the Galaxy S8 a couple of months later. The move proved a smart one, with the Galaxy S8 taking top spot in our books as the best phone of the year.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Smartphone Review

4.2
Pros: appealing design, great display, fast SoC, LTE Cat. 18, protected against water and dust, expandable storage, Dual-SIM SKU available (Duos, good sensor equipment, USB 3.1 with DP, HDMI, and OTG, great camera, wireless charging, Ultra HD videos at 60 FPS
Cons: can overheat under load, videos at 60 FPS with a limited runtime, no Dual-VoLTE, long charging time, warranty excludes damages caused by liquids
Verdict: We prefer the Samsung Galaxy S9 over its larger sibling S9+. It is not as bulky and the dual-camera is not worth the additional price. The Korean manufacturer once again delivers a really great smartphone, but it is more of a facelift of last year's Galaxy S8 and there are still some bugs, and some...

5.0
Pros: 12MP rear camera with dual-aperture technology, Still fabulous Super AMOLED 18.5:9 QHD+ screen, AR Emoji, while not perfect, are lots of fun
Cons: Similar specs to the Galaxy S8
Verdict: The Samsung Galaxy S9 is, in terms of hardware and design, an iterative update of last year's Galaxy S8 . The S9 features the exact same screen as last year's phone, the same amount of RAM and storage, the same capacity battery, and an almost identical design, too.

Samsung Galaxy S9

4.2
Pros: The Galaxy S9 once again proves Samsung's formula of a gorgeous 5.8-inch screen, sexy dual-curved design and terrific camera for well-lit shots can't go wrong. Whiplash-fast speeds, wireless charging and water-resistance complete the package. And it looks stunning in purple and blue
Cons: Low-light photos often look blurry and lack the fine texture and contrast of competing phone cameras. The Galaxy S9's camera frequently, accidentally switches between modes. 3D avatar software is tragically bad and a new face-unlock tool is inherently insecure.
Verdict: The Galaxy S9 is a nice incremental upgrade, but its low-light camera isn't a game changer and some new features fall far behind the iPhone X. S8 owners can skip, but it's a good upgrade from older Androids.

Samsung Galaxy S9 & S9+ Review – The Everything Phones

Pros: Gorgeous, IP68 water and dust resistant build, Industry-leading display, Incredible Dolby Atmos speakers, 3.5mm audio jack, PMA and WPC wireless charging support, Edge panels are ultra useful, Ultra-fast performance, Samsung Pay is still the best mobile payments solution, Great new biometric...
Cons: Only supports QuickCharge 2.0, Camera noise processing is still too heavy, Front-facing camera should be better, New camera interface is terrible, Battery life should be better, Having fewer features on the smaller Galaxy S9 camera is lame

Review: Samsung's new Galaxy S9 phones make excellence routine

Pros: Solid performance; classic Samsung design; Dex dock allows use as desktop computer
Cons: Iris scan feature needs work; Bixby virtual assistant remains a work in progress; AR Emoji a half-baked gimmick
Verdict: Let's face it: the changes you're going to see in smartphones every year are pretty incremental. With some significant exceptions (I'm looking at you, user interface of the iPhone X ), today's phones aren't all that much different than the phones of three years ago. Faster, yes, More memory, sure.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ review: Refinement, refined

Pros: Display An absolutely brilliant screen - the best on any smartphone out there. Amazing brightness, colors, and viewing angles, Fingerprint scanner The fingerprint scanner is back in a location where it won't give you constant frustration.
Cons: So much glass I mean, this should be obvious - the Galaxy S9 looks kind of fragile. There's a lot of glass on this phone. Use a case, Updates Even with Project Treble, Samsung still avoids committing to a period of Android OS updates, let alone timely ones, for its flagship handsets.
Verdict: The nice thing about the Galaxy S9 and S9+ is that they hold very few mysteries. Go back to our review of the S8 twins last year, and the majority of what you'll read there applies here. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ were great phones, and the S9 and S9+ are better versions of them.

Pros: Good low-light photography, crisp and detailed screen, slick design
Cons: No improvement in battery life, Bixby is still not very useful, intelligent scan has high failure rate
Verdict: The Samsung S9 is an excellent smartphone – one of the best Android phones you can buy today. The screen, in particular, is superb. The colours are crisp and extremely detailed, and the ample screen real estate makes it well-suited to watching videos in horizontal mode.

Verdict: Samsung's Galaxy S9 is a strange breed of smartphone. With a Snapdragon 845 processor, great camera, and 18:9 screen, it has all the trappings of a fantastic 2018 handset. Yet, at the same time, it's remarkably similar to the Galaxy S8 that it replaces.

Cons: Intelligent Scan trades security for convenience, Super Slow-mo is 720p only and needs bright lighting, Bixby still feels gimmicky
Verdict: The Samsung Galaxy S9 forces us to question upgrades for their own sake. On the one hand, there's our desire as consumers to have the very latest tech gadget, even if we don't even use the phone we have now to its full extent.

Verdict: It's a sad fact, but the only chance the Samsung Galaxy S9 had to stand out in an ocean of equally competent Android smartphones in 2018 was if its camera was the very, very best – better than all the rest. And, to a certain extent, Samsung has pulled that off with the Galaxy S9.
