Last week Samsung announced the new 840 Evo SSD series to replace the existing 840 series. The write speeds should be significantly higher, but the affordable price remains the same. We tested the entire series consisting of 120 GB, 250 GB, 500 GB, 750 GB and 1 TB models.

And here we were, staring multiple SandForce drives in the face, thinking solid-state innovation had ground to a halt. How wrong we were. Boffins at some of the biggest names in the industry have proven that there's plenty of room for improvement, with Intel introducing a new level of consistency...

Purchased to upgrade a Mac Mini. Issue: Search for "Performance issue Samsung EVO 840" to get a sense of the problem. Many reports of drive slowing down over time on both PC and Mac. At least one firmware update released; another on the way. Firmware update software not Mac native.

I did a lot of research on SSD's and the Samsung 840's were always rated at or near the best. There were some drives that were cheaper, but I have come to realize over the years that if you buy a good product, you buy it once. Buy it cheap, you buy it twice.

Bought this 3 years ago. SSD fails six months after the three year warranty. Samsung will not exchange for another. New units have a five year warranty. But buyer beware that you will have failure within months of that warranty and Samsung will not help you.

Bought in February and forgot to review. Been a great upgrade from standard HDD, really fast and so far really reliable. PC is in daily use by myself and my wife and shows no signs of slowing down. Would definately recommend.

Installed perfectly,, that said, WinXP Pro 64 and my MB can't utilize some features associated with SSD for optimum performance. Both HDD and SSD boot from full shutdown under 30 secs. Can't complain though....

I was glad to get this SSD at this capacity and price for an older laptop that needed some help. I very carefully read the information about this particular offer and it clearly included the transfer cable. I specifically looked for this inclusion!

I bought this drive for a windows 7 install on a desktop pc. It easy installed win 7 in under 30 minutes I was expecting to take over 1 hour like my old ata hard drives. Pc runs much faster with it.
