The story is not brilliant but is neither dull

This is the first game/campaign I completed on Xbox One. It starts with Roman soldier saving Nero from english Barbarians and slowly plunges into a revenge story. The story is not brilliant but is neither dull. It is fun to play. The campaign duration is very short.

Ryse: Son of Rome brings with it enough visual pizzazz to impress anyone, though what you see is pretty much what you get.

Highly impressive graphics; Solid combat mechanic

Quick time based executions; Limited overall scale

Ryse: Son of Rome is SurpRYSE-ingly Fun

If David Cage made a God of War game, I have the sneaking feeling the end result would look an awful lot like Ryse: Son of Rome – one of the Xbox One's most confounding launch titles. Developer Crytek has released what is essentially a proof of concept piece spun into a full – albeit short – game.

Fun executions; gorgeous visuals

Short; repetitive; and not much in the way of replayability

Ryse: Son of Rome Xbox One Review

Other console/handheld formats: N/A In the case of Ryse: Son of Rome , it's a meeting of old and new: old because the game takes us back to ancient Rome and new because it's on brand new console hardware.

Game Review – Ryse: Son Of Rome [XboxOne]

You play as Marius Titus, a Roman Soldier on a journey for revenge after his entire family was murdered by Barbarians. You'll play through his life, primarily in flashback form, beginning with the murder of his family then following his battles across the Roman Empire before finally getting the...

Stunning graphics; Wonderful narrative

QTE executions have no real substance; Combat becomes boring and repetitive; Incredibly linear

A Real Bruticas Maximus

Ryse: Son of Rome on the Xbox One takes two steps forward with graphics, sound and music but more than one step back with the story. The gameplay is heavy with one on one combat along with some Roman era battles where you act as a centurion.

"Great fun, story too short"

This game has a great storyline that is very fun to play. The graphics on the game are great, but the kill scenes do become a little repetitive after a while. Unfortunately the story doesn't last all that long and there isn't much to do after you have finished the story mode.

Juanolo's Ryse: Son of Rome Review

"A beautiful but weak experience While taking out a group of barbarians, the feeling of playing as this unstoppable warrior might feel remarkable. As time goes on, this Roman soldier reveals that he has some big flaws. While Ryse: Son of Rome is visually stunning, it lacks in gameplay and being fun.

Ryse: Son of Rome Review

Ryse certainly is a game that showcases the visual quality that the Xbox One can produce, as the graphics are stunning at times. Sadly the gameplay is not quite up to the same standard. The timed events can get repetitive in the beginning and you don't really feel as if you are in total control.
