Nintendo Switch Ring Fit Adventure SWITCH RING FIT ADVENTURE review

Nintendo never shied away from creating unique fitness games in the past but with the Ring Fit Adventure, they elevated their game to a whole new level. Using the quirky Ring-Con controller, you will embark on a virtual adventure that can get you fit in real life.

Unique gaming experience thanks to special controller; Story mode offers sense of progression; Plenty of replay value; Difficulty can be customised to player's ability; Quiet mode is neighbour friendly

Admittedly; you will need at least 2 sqm space to play properly

Nintendo Switch Ring Fit Adventure SWITCH RING FIT ADVENTURE review

This exercise-focused peripheral might not be for everyone, but if you want to spice up your boring workout with a light-hearted adventure game then the Ring Fit Adventure might be for you. It's a great way to fit in some exercise under the guise of an RPG.

Surprisingly fun RPG; Targets specific muscle groups; Mini-games galore; Can customize workouts

Only works with one game at launch; Pricey peripheral; Ring has poor grip; Novelty factor may wear off

Nintendo Switch Ring Fit Adventure SWITCH RING FIT ADVENTURE review

Although fun as a gaming-meets-exercise idea, we're not sure you'll have the inclination to play this often. But if you do, you'll be grinning from ear to ear and fully energised from the experience.

Easy to use; Fun to play; Mini-games look great; You'll need to exercise to play

You'll need to exercise to play; Has potential to tire; Won't work with Switch Lite

Nintendo Switch Ring Fit Adventure SWITCH RING FIT ADVENTURE review

A vastly more interesting experience than Wii Fit that’s good enough to get RPG fans interested in fitness and fitness fans interested in role-playing games.

The role-playing elements are impressively involved, including experience points, skill trees, and relatively nuanced combat; Exercises are as demanding as you want and the Ring-Con works perfectly.

The levels can get repetitive and there was no need to make the story and dialogue quite this silly and uninteresting.

A proper workout, and a very enjoyable one at that

Well-made accessories; Enjoyable and surprisingly deep Adventure mode; Minigames are great; You really do feel the burn

Leg strap comes loose too often; Battles go on a bit; You really do feel the burn

Nintendo Switch Ring Fit Adventure SWITCH RING FIT ADVENTURE review

Nintendo has once again engaged with the strange world of exercise games, bringing Ring Fit Adventure to the Nintendo Switch. The game aims to bring you on a fitness journey by telling a tale of a swole dragon who wants to destroy the world. Your job is to get fit enough to challenge the dragon.

Nintendo Switch Ring Fit Adventure SWITCH RING FIT ADVENTURE review

So far in 2019 I've bested mechs the size of skyscrapers, pummelled ancient demons into the pavement, even terrorised the citizens of a sleepy English village as one very naughty goose. But the greatest video game enemy I've faced this year? It's Ring Fit Adventure's stairs. These things burn .

Nintendo Switch Ring Fit Adventure SWITCH RING FIT ADVENTURE review

Editor's note: Ring Fit Adventure first released on October 18, 2019. Because we were unable to review the game back then, we're taking this opportunity--the one-year anniversary of its release--to give it a full evaluation now.

Approachable enough for beginners while also offering higher difficulty settings that should appeal to fitness pros; Vibrant landscapes making jogging through each world a treat; Combat system and skill trees keep progression varied and interesting; Fosters healthy approach to fitness and allows you...

Encourages shorter sessions by prompting you to quit after one or two levels; which can be counterproductive to growth; Cardio feels minimal compared to strength training and bodyweight exercises
