Ricoh CX5
Aside from cosmetic modifications, nothing much has changed in Ricoh's CX series of slimline digicams since the CX3 was released early last year. The sensor is the same 10-megapizel back-illuminated CMOS chip and the camera has the same retracting 10.7x optical zoom lens.

Ricoh CX5
Ricoh is most definitely a niche camera brand, and it appeals to a particular sub-section of photographers. Class-leading features like quick autofocus and a bright screen don't always make up for the lack of other essential options like RAW capture and manual controls.
Pros:
- Quick
- effective AF
- Excellent macro performance
- Eye-Fi compatibility
- Now has HDMI out
Cons:
- No RAW
- No manual controls
- ISO performance over 200 needs work
- Design flaws mean the camera slips out of hand easily

Ricoh CX5
Another good compact camera from Ricoh that takes excellent images; however, the upgraded features from its predecessor aren't as great as they could have been

Good picture quality and colouration.
Well designed and built with a good sensor. Slightly enhanced colour without flash which makes pics in poor light and dull days better than they actually are. All round a great little snapper for the money.

Ricoh CX5 review
A solid, dependable and versatile superzoom compact, but doesn't do enough to outshine big name rivals

Ricoh CX5 review
Like Ricoh's mid-level compact R series before it, the CX series maintains a steady and regular release interval. Since the beginning of 2004, Ricoh has announced a new model roughly once every six months, with the first CX released at the beginning of 2009.

[REVIEW-RICOH CX5 compact camera]
This 10 megapixel camera has a 28–300mm lens (film equivalent). Stabilisation is by sensor shift. The 75mm LCD is outstanding, with very high resolution. Construction quality is good but on-body controls are sparse.
Pros:
- Automatic white balance is outstanding
- We took photos in a weird mix of florescent, daylight and tungsten and had good results every time
- The super resolution function works well
- Images up to ISO400 are free of annoying digital noise.
Cons:
- The lens at its 300mm extension is poor
- With the digital zoom boost it is ridiculous
- Why do they do it? We didn't get one acceptable photo at the zoom limit
