There are not a lot of differences between the new Ricoh CX5 camera and the Ricoh CX4 that preceded it. Both enjoy a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor and 10.7x optical zoom lens, and physically they don't look much different.
Pros:
- 10.7x optical zoom
- strong build quality
- excellent macro capability
- fun creative modes
- supports EyeFi SD cards
Cons:
- Tracking autofocus was a little too jumpy
- auto white balance wasn't always accurate
- noticeable noise above ISO 400

Successor to the 6-month old CX4 model, the Ricoh CX5 now offers faster autofocus speed due to a new hybrid AF system, recording of images with improved resolution using the "Super-resolution"...

Ricoh CX5
Like the Nikon S8100 , the CX5 hides a huge lens in a small body. Behind the faintly boxy, 3cm-deep body lurks a lens that (converted to 35mm) runs from a wide-angle 28mm to a very long 300mm, with an aperture ranging from f/3.5 to 5.6. Impressive stuff.

Ricoh CX5
UPDATE 07/07/2011: In line with our new, tighter test criteria, the CX5 is now a three-star camera rather than a four-star camera. This is due to its inconsistent lens quality and limited video mode.
Pros:
- Pleasant
- customisable interface
- High-quality metal body
- Instant shutter release modes
- Clear
- high-def LCD
Cons:
- Inconsistent lens performance
- Other models handle low light better
- Noisy zoom and focusing
- No optical zoom in video mode and low-quality sound recorded

- no Raw capture
- high price tag relative to competing advanced compacts

[REVIEW-RICOH CX5 compact camera]
This 10 megapixel camera has a 28–300mm lens (film equivalent). Stabilisation is by sensor shift. The 75mm LCD is outstanding, with very high resolution. Construction quality is good but on-body controls are sparse.
Pros:
- Automatic white balance is outstanding
- We took photos in a weird mix of florescent, daylight and tungsten and had good results every time
- The super resolution function works well
- Images up to ISO400 are free of annoying digital noise.
Cons:
- The lens at its 300mm extension is poor
- With the digital zoom boost it is ridiculous
- Why do they do it? We didn't get one acceptable photo at the zoom limit

Ricoh CX5 review
Like Ricoh's mid-level compact R series before it, the CX series maintains a steady and regular release interval. Since the beginning of 2004, Ricoh has announced a new model roughly once every six months, with the first CX released at the beginning of 2009.
