PES 2014

While many soccer fans would see the ongoing battles between Manchester United and Liverpool as one of the most exciting rivalries in the sport, gamers would likely beg to differ and look no further than the rivalry between the Pro Evolution Soccer series and EA Sports FIFA franchise.

PES 2014 – Review (PS3, 360)

PES has had a poor run in this generation. Once the go to football game on past gens had become an inferior title to the behemoth rising in EA Sports' FIFA franchise. Konami never gave up and slowly but surely, over the last couple of iterations of the title, we have started to see the emergence of...

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 (Xbox 360) Review

With a new graphics engine and years of experience, PES 2014 gets straight to the point. Game Review: Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 (PC/PS3/Xbox360)

I'll start off by saying that PES 2014 is quite simply the best Pro Evolution Soccer on the current gen console, it has taken its time to get to this stage but it has never played or looked so good.

PES 2014 moves ever closer towards simulation, and in doing so forgets exactly what makes the series so different and so much fun in the first place.

PES 2014 is an odd beast, a strange hybrid of its straightforward arcade roots and the ever-growing complexity of the FIFA series. In some respects, this complexity is warranted; never has a PES game looked quite as realistic as 2014 does. And for the most part, it plays well too.

Fox engine sharpens up the visuals; Impressive new facial animations; Can still provide a fun game of football

Frame rate issues during match buildup and replays; Single- and multiplayer modes horribly dated; Inconsistent AI makes passing and setting up goals tricky; Awful commentary; Loses some of the direct control and feel of previous games in the series
