Philips Hue tap Switch Review

Connected lighting is nice, but sometimes I miss the simple power switch. Sure, geofencing can automatically turn your lights on as you pull into the driveway, but it can't quickly shut them all off right before you hop into bed. Philips has remedied this issue with the Hue tap Switch ($73.99 at Amazon) , a programmable, smartly designed wireless smart switch that works with your Hue ($199.99 at Verizon) connected lighting. The tap is a physical switch that automatically lets you pull up your favorite lighting scenes, or simply turn off all the smart lights in the house, all with the satisfying push a physical button. It's a bit pricey for what it is, but it's still a worthwhile addition to any home that uses Hue lighting. Design and SetupThe tap Switch is essentially just a large, physical button, but it's attractively designed, and benefits greatly from an ingenious manufacturing decision. The Switch has a circular design that measures 0.98 inch tall and 2.95 inches in diamete...

The Philips Hue tap Switch is pricey, but it's a worthwhile addition to any home that uses Hue connected lighting.

No power source required; Convenient; Programmable; Simple setup

Expensive; Doesn't replace existing light switch

Waste of money - avoid!

Oh my... I recently started experimenting with Hue products and I had been really impressed with the products. Until I decided to grab a Philips Hue Tap Switch for the living room instead of the simple Hue Dimmer Switches that I had used every else in the house. Philips... what were you thinking? How could you have gone so wrong? * Unlike the dimmer switch looks and feel quality in every regard, the `kinetic` switches and the overall construction of the Tap Switch make it incredibly difficult to use. In the time that I've had it, I can count on one hand the number of times I've pressed a button and had it register first go. The amount to travel needed to activate the switches - especially the main switch is ridiculous and feels very unnatural. * The switch can do everything except the one thing you will assume it can do - that is switch your lights on *and* off again. Nope... you can program each button to set the lights to a different `scene`, but you can't set the buttons

Simple and effective

I bought the Hue Tap Switch a couple of weeks ago and I'm very impressed with the product. The "kinetic energy" design means no power, no batteries and no cable connections required. And the included double sided fixing tape even meant I didn't have to drill the wall! I had it installed and each button programmed with a "light scene" in less than 10 minutes! Brilliant!

Tap? Switch

Initially i regretted this purchase, as it costs more that the dimmer switch and has less function IMO. Now i've used it for a while, I can live with it. You have to "Tap" harder than expected though.

Excellent product

This product works as well as expected. I use the large button to turn off all Hue lights while I use the other three to turn on up to 9 rooms or scenes. Excellent!!!
