A wonderful lens, but it's not really worth the money. Almost the same price as a Leitz lens and with similar qualities, both mechanically and optically. If you (like me) enjoy well built stuff it could give you the extra luxurious joy that makes you bring your camera that extra time, if you only...

Extremely well built and beautiful, compact, fantastic optically (don't know about performance wide open since I almost always stop down to f/4 at least); Better for manual focusing than most other AF lenses due to the damping, wonderful lens hood

Expensive; slower AF due to the damping (ok for me though); focus ring is a little bit too narrow for manual focusing; only silver available in Sweden (doesn't bother me)

Amazing

Can't fault it, it's perfect for macro jobs, also good for sitting across the bar and taking pictures of your mates from afar. Detail is amazing, the ONLY downside is sometimes the focus struggles, but that's why I use manual anyway!

Pentax's FA43: One of the nicest lenses you could own.

A few years back Pentax sought to inspire enthusiasts by introducing a line of "Limited" lenses.

Wonderful rendering; Fantastic build quality; Compact, light, and a pleasure to use

Lens cap can only be mounted when hood is attached

The Finest AF Lenses

These are film-era lenses with screw-drive autofocus. Pretty quick but make a slight noise. The older SMC coating is also prone to fringing wide-open in high contrast situations. Luckily there's a PP adjustment in your Pentax body to help minimize.Quirks aside, they quite possibly capture the most...

Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh; Strong Construction

A Pleasant Surprise

"I mostly shoot film cameras from the 40s to 70s, but recently acquired a used Pentax DSLR and suddenly found myself needing a bag of some sort to cart everything around in while out trekking about. I felt as though spending over 100.00 on a bag was a bit...

Pentax smc FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited Lens Review

Pentax smc FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited is one of the only four FA lenses from the company's film era that are still being manufactured and sold nowadays. The lens was the first one to bear 'Limited' designation and despite its rather high price tag, ~US$500, remained quite popular among users.

REVIEW: SMC Pentax-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited Lens

This is the second of the three Limited lenses from Pentax, originally designed for film and aiming to be of the highest manufacturing and optical standards. The 43mm was actually the first to be released, alongside the MZ-3 film SLR in 1998.

Perhaps the very best normal you can buy.

The review here argues over fractions of a percent in distortion and worries about Vietnamese manufacturing; A photographer who actually uses the FA43 will succumb to the pleasures of a top-class lens with magical imaging.

Price -- but compared to Zeiss, Voigtlander and Leica it is reasonable and worth every penny; Especially as the alternatives do not support auto-focus
