Ricoh's Pentax brand has made a name for itself by providing enthusiast-grade features at aggressive, entry-level pricing. The Pentax K-70 follows in that tradition and offers an unbelievable amount of camera for very little cash.
Huge bang for the buck; Great image quality; Excellent high ISO performance; Fast autofocus; Good burst frame rate with deep buffer; Pentaprism viewfinder; Twin control dials; Articulated LCD; Comprehensive weather-sealing and freeze-proofing; Unbelievable wealth of rare to unique (yet very useful)...
Wi-Fi wireless communication is slow, clumsy and unintuitive; Video autofocus is prone to hunting or racking focus; Slow buffer clearing; Rather heavy for an entry-level DSLR; Autofocus and metering systems are a bit dated; Below average battery life
The Pentax K-70 takes place of the K-S2, with ergonomic improvements that make it feel like a much more serious camera, and Raw image quality that is among the best the APS-C sensor size has to offer.
If like me you enjoy a good manual then this unit should make you happy. The manual I saw was in PDF format – sadly not something to read in the bath – and it is 156 pages with 144 pages before the safety and warranty pages, bliss.
Disappointing kit lens aside, the Pentax K-70 is a compact, solid and very well specified camera for enthusiasts that also delivers good value for money. It's packed with innovative features, and there's enough here to keep novices and even more experienced photographers occupied for a long time to...

The K-70 ($649.95) is no exception, boasting full weather sealing, a glass pentaprism viewfinder, and in-body image stabilization. Its autofocus system isn't on the same level as the K-3 II ($1,096.95 at Adorama) , but it inherits many of the technological advances found in the outgoing premium APS-C model, including high-resolution Pixel Shift imaging. Video is underwhelming, despite the addition of on-sensor phase detection, but if that's not a big concern for you, the K-70 is a solid option. If you want a more well-rounded camera, look to our Editors' Choice SLR, the Canon EOS Rebel T6s ($849.99 at Office Depot® & OfficeMax®) , or the mirrorless Sony Alpha 6000, both of which offer a better autofocus experience when recording video. Design The K-70 ($546.95 at Amazon) is a compact, solidly built SLR. It measures 3.7 by 4.9 by 2.9 inches (HWD) and weighs about 1...
The Pentax K-70 is an affordable SLR with the benefit of weather sealing, but like most of its competitors, its Live View focus system is underwhelming.

The K-70 is Pentax' newest SLR camera with a 24MP APS-C sized image sensor. It is a heavy camera (body: 1.5 lbs; 2.4 lbs including the kit lens), yet is quite compact. It has a splash-proof body and can be used in inclement weather conditions.
When picturing a high end DSLR camera we don't usually see wind, dust, rain and snow, however for those shooting outdoors or even just travelling, it's flagrantly obvious how important durability is. You don't want to be carefully nursing a vulnerable piece of technology.
