Pentax K-3 DSLR Review

Even though the new Pentax K-3 offers a very robust and massive body, it is quite compact; it's only slightly larger than the ultra-compact Canon EOS Rebel SL1, although it's almost double the weight.

Pentax has introduced an excellent dSLR into the mid-level range. Its APS-C sized 24-Megapixel CMOS sensor, built-in SR stabilization, 1080p HD video and fantastic performance and quality make it a true challenger in this market.

"Green" shooting mode is accurate and easy in all situations; Dedicated Video Capture Button is always ready to record; Full 1080p HD video capture with tons of control; HDMI output and audio input add to the video capabilities of the camera; Weather -sealed body protects the camera when shooting in...

Although performance was very good; it did not live up to expectations; High ISO images are incredibly noisy; Face Detection only works in "Green" mode with Live View enabled

Since Pentax was bought from Hoya by Ricoh, it's seen a bit of an increase in new launches and development.

Weatherproof body; 100% viewfinder; Universal DNG raw format

Chromatic aberration issues; LCD screen fixed; Tends to underexpose

Pentax K-3 review

Since Pentax was bought from Hoya by Ricoh, it's seen a bit of an increase in new launches and development. The K-3 comes just a year after the Pentax K-5 II was launched, which arrived two years after the Pentax K-5 .

Pentax K-3 review

Our Pentax K-5 review dates all the way back to early 2011 and though there was then an updated K-5 II and IIs, both using an improved autofocus system, it was otherwise a largely identical camera.

[REVIEW-PENTAX K-3 DSLR]

: This 24mp DSLR is weather-sealed with image stabilisation by sensor shift. It has a true pentaprism optical viewfinder with 100 per cent coverage. The special feature of the K-3 is the removal of the anti-aliasing filter, promising sharper images.

Pentax Ricoh K-3 DSLR Review

The PENTAX K-3 was made to compete with the top brands of the DSLR-world and the competition is close, but with its price and exemplary features, the PENTAX K-3 is creating some distance.

Great image quality; Rugged build; Water-resistant

Insufficient autofocus for video

Pentax K-3

The Pentax K-3 -- Pentax's top-of-the-line model -- wins awards as the most full-featured prosumer DSLR camera on the market. With great performance, excellent image quality and superior handling, the rugged K-3 is a semi-pro camera that successfully competes with its Canon and Nikon rivals.

27-point autofocus system; Excellent high ISO quality; Weather-sealed for extreme temperatures; Anti-aliasing option

Slow autofocus

Pentax K-3 - Five Things to Like

We recently had Pentax's new flagship, the 24 megapixel K-3, to shoot with. Here are five features we liked best (and a few we didn't). Pick up the K-3 and you know you're dealing with a well-made machine, since it comes complete with a stainless steel chassis and a magnesium alloy body,...

Great weatherproof body; Good layout of buttons; Anti-aliasing filters simulator onboard, 8.3 Fps shooting

No Wi-Fi nor GPS; Battery performance so-so; Could have been cheaper
