Top quality optic - at a price

The Lumix 12-35 is a top quality optic that delivers excellent image quality even wide open. Sharpness and micro-contrast are excellent giving shots a certain clarity and depth that only the best lenses deliver. It's significantly better than any of the kit zooms - and so it should be at the price. I find it excellent for general purpose use such as for events, landscapes, people and walk-around. Unless you're into specialised requirements such as dramatic perspectives from very wide-angle lenses or long lenses for sports or nature, then the 12-35 might be the only lens you need. In summary, if you're after a very high quality standard zoom then the 12-35 will fit the bill perfectly - but be prepared to dig deep into your pockets!

Bought sight unseen, Absolutely No Regrets!

I bought this short zoom by the description only. Ordered though my local kit supplier and it arrived a couple of days later, I actually picked up on the way to the airport on the day I was due to fly to Italy. So no chance to try it out before hand. I spent a week taking 100's of photos in Rome, Naples, Capri and the Pompeii ruins. The bulk of the images were taken inside basilicas and of architectural features . F2.8 working was great. I did a few 'stick-together' panoramas, Again QUALITY stuff, (unexpected from a micro-4/3, considering I'm a full frame DSLR user!). In the end, I only used this one lens for the whole trip, my other lenses stayed firmly in the hotel room. I'm off to Japan later this year, my GX7 and this lens is all I'm taking. Expensive?, yes..... but really worth every penny!

Amazing results

Really enjoyed taking this to Japan on my GX1 body. It is light enough to be dragged around the City all day but delivered some great results, especially in low light. My only complaint was the battery life on the GX1. I think the power OIS hits the battery hard, so I found I only got nearly a day of photography in and had to be very sure I switched off the camera, rather than waiting for it to go to standby. So carry a spare battery!

Amazing must-have lens.

I have written a full-length review of this lens (the mark 1 version) over at my blog. Post is here: https://nzdigital.blogspot.com/2021/09/panasonic-lumix-g-x-vario-12-35mm-f28.html Spoiler alert, it's a fantastic lens and a must-have if you want a fast, constant f2.8 in the 24-70mm traditional focal length range - and who doesn't want that? Get one. You will not regret it.

Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH. Review

The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH. ($1,299.99 direct) is the company's take on a pro-level zoom lens for its Micro Four Thirds cameras. The lens covers a 24-70mm field of view in terms of full-frame photography, offers a maximum f/2.8 aperture throughout its zoom range, and is optically stabilized. It's impressively compact, but it lags behind our Editors' Choice Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f2.8 PRO($619.00 at Amazon UK), a lens that is sharper from edge to edge and less expensive. But Panasonic shooters may still opt for this lens; unlike Olympus Micro Four Thirds cameras, most of Panasonic's lineup lacks in-body stabilization. The 12-35mm is pretty compact; it measures just 2.9 by 2.8 inches (HD), weighs in at 10.8 ounces, and supports compact 58mm threaded filters. The Olympus 12-40mm is noticeably bigger; that lens is 3.3 by 2.8 inches, weighs 13.5 ounces, and its larger front element requires you to invest in 62mm filters. It can focus as close as 9.8 in...

The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH. is the company's take on a pro-level standard zoom, but softness at the edges and a high asking price hold it back.

Maximum f/2.8 aperture throughout zoom range; Optical image stabilization; Minimal distortion; Compact; Protected from dust and moisture

Expensive; Some edge and corner softness

Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 II Asph OIS Lens - BRAND NEW review

The 12-35mm is very versatile and useful focal length and compares to 24-70mm on full frame. Its a great standard range zoom for M43 system, has a reasonably fast f2.8 aperture, is very sharp with excellent image quality, and has good bokeh.

Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 II Asph OIS Lens - BRAND NEW review

Great all around and walk around lens as the focal range (24-70mm FF equivalent) is extremely useful for run and gun shooting. The OIS (optical image stabilization) combined with the GH5's amazing IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) work like a charm and handles stationary shots perfectly.

Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 II Asph OIS Lens - BRAND NEW review

It's compact and lightweight, it has good image quality, excellent stabilization and it looks good too. What more can you ask for in a standard zoom lens? I love this little lens. I prefer it over the Olympus 12-40mm because it's more compact and I like the overall design better.

Compact, Lightweight, Stylish, Sharp, Good contrast, Good colours, Fast aperture, Fast Autofocus
