20 X zoom, the size and reliable auto mode make it a great camera for her.
My wife uses it, more and more feature on each new model, now I have to learn about these appealing features and explain, like GPS tagging, or NFC. I'm used to images from larger sensor camera and I can see the picture quality difference.

My wife wanted a new camera before we went on an overseas trip late last year. She knew exactly what she wanted. It had to be compact, white, have a grip and a reasonably long telephoto. Image quality was not a consideration! This camera gets pretty good reviews.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ40 review
Image quality is normally our number one priority when we review cameras, but last year's Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30 was an exception to the rule. Its image quality was perfectly respectable, with sharp focus from its 20x zoom lens and well-judged automatic exposures, but its sensor produced more...
