Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100

It's unfortunate that the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100's lens isn't of better quality. It's the weak link in an otherwise excellent performer. No matter how good an image sensor is, or how fully featured a camera is, if the lens isn't up to snuff, images won't be either.

20MP 1-inch image sensor; 10x zoom range; Quick autofocus and 10fps burst rate; Raw and JPG capture options; Touch screen; Solid high-ISO performance; Good macro capability

Lens disappoints at telephoto focal lengths; Soft edges at wide angles; LCD is fixed; EVF is quite small

Panasonic Lumix ZS100

Occupying an interesting middle ground between the company's LX100 enthusiast compact and FZ1000 megazoom, the Panasonic Lumix ZS100 offers a general-purpose compromise among image quality, zoom and size that adds up to a highly recommendable camera for families, travelers and even hobbyists who get...

The Panasonic's ZS100's 10x zoom lens is thus far the longest we've seen in a compact camera with a 1-inch sensor; and it offers a broad set of features including 4K video

It lacks a flip-up display and its autofocus speed is just middling

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 takes the Travel-Zoom category to the next level by packing a large sensor behind a 10X optical zoom lens while remaining truly compact. Its 20 megapixels 1" CMOS sensor delivers outstanding image quality and performance, in addition to having efficient direct controls,...

Very compact for its sensor and zoom; Low image noise up to ISO 800; Good dynamic-range and image contrast; Reliable metering; Excellent resistance to chromatic aberrations; Low optical distortion; No visible vignetting; Instant shutter-lag; Fast shot-to-shot speed; Excellent LCD visibility; Nice...

Less softness; much worse along edges; Below-average color accuracy; Occasional cast with Auto White-Balance; Very dim at telephoto; Exposure-Priority only in Manual mode; Tiny low-resolution EVF; Highly variable AF; 1s Filming delay; Very short battery-life

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100/TZ100 occupies a spot in the 1"-type enthusiast compact market that has been open since Sony created the genre several years ago. With a 25-250mm equivalent zoom lens and jacket-pocket-friendly body, the ZS100 gives users the perfect mix of focal range and size.

Great travel and inconspicuous candid photography camera

I'm a relatively new convert to the mirrorless cameras having purchased my first, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000, about a year ago. Before that, I was a lifelong pro Nikon user for over 25 years as a photojournalist for several major newspapers.

Great, but not perfect

I have a complete line up of professional camera bodies and lenses - Canon. Since I purchased the ZS100, (February, 2016) I have put my DSLRs away and exclusively shot the ZS100. in the past 2 - 3 months, I have shot close to 6,000 shots.

Small; lightweight and good shots per charge Lots of great features Touch screen

Slow if not impossible to focus macro Images good; but not the best

Hugely disappointed!

I was so look forward to receiving this item. However the box was opened when is arrived. Considering such expensive item there was no seal on the box. Here are a few reasons that I do not like this camera. 1, the product is cheaply made in China, the exterior is in plastic. Very easy to break.

Everything as expected

Everything as expected, my wife (actual user) is very happy with its performance (well complementing her earlier DMC-ZS30).

This is not one of the usual 'point and shoot' cameras that casual photographers prefer. It requires an understanding of photographic theory and how to adjust a camera for best results. The camera has an extensive menu system which allows optimum results.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 Review

The use of the 1-inch sensor size in compact cameras has gone a long way to improve the image quality you can expect from a pocketable point-and-shoot. But typically these models, like our Editors' Choice Sony RX100 III, have used very short zooms with wide aperture designs that excel in low light and capture images with a pleasingly shallow depth of field. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 ($699.99) takes a different approach, squeezing a 10x zoom into a slim body. But its lens doesn't capture a lot of light and it loses sharpness as you zoom in, making its extra reach a questionable value. Design The ZS100 ($697.99 at Amazon) features a slim body with a lens that protrudes a bit, even in its collapsed state. It measures 2.5 by 4.4 by 1.7 inches (HWD) and weighs just about 11 ounces. It's offered in two colors—an understated black edition, and the silver finish we received for review. Looking at it, I wouldn't call it silver, though—it's more of a gunmetal gray, with a lighter gray c...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 has a longer zoom than any other pocketable 1-inch sensor camera, but the lens doesn't live up to its potential.
