An excellant choice

Bought this product 7 days back after lots of research online. I am more than 100% satisfied with the product as still images are very very crisp with vibrant colors (particularly on a large screen LED tv) though some noise at iso more than 400 is noticeable but there is no need to go beyond that.

Great Almost-A-DSLR

I purchased this camera as an upgrade to my Lumix FZ20K (5MP, 12x zoom), which I have owned for 7+ years. Like the FZ20K the FZ200 maintains a fast F2.8 throughout its zoom range, only this new one is has a 24X zoom at 12MP.
Pros:
  • Great zoom range from 25mm (35mm film equivalent) wide-angle to 600mm telephoto
  • Lens sharpness is great throughout range
  • Lots of creative features
  • Battery has really good life
  • Accepts 52mm filters
Cons:
  • Manual focus with the electrical slider switch on the side of the lens is a little tricky
  • I would have preferred a mechanical focus ring like on my older Lumix FZ20K
  • Also slider switch can be set to adjust zoom or focus.

Very good, but not perfect

Image quality is good. It's not as good as my Nikon D800, but it's also a lot less expensive. Putting a lens this long on my D800 would cost 10 grand and weigh 12 pounds. When the D800 is too much, this camera steps in and takes over. I'm getting used to it and my photos are improving.
Pros:
  • F28 All The Way
  • Good image quality
  • Long Lens F28

good camera, good price

I owned an earlier version of the lumix and was impressed by the quality of the lens and the resulting image. The Leica lens is special, it's not just hype. I read reviews on the fz200, was impressed and looked for a good price from a major supplier - that turned out to be Office Depot.
Pros:
  • value
  • Quiet
  • Performance
  • leica lens
Cons:
  • no room for thumb

Loving this camera

I downgraded from a Nikon D7000 and before that a Nikon D90 because of medical issues that caused the weight to be an issue. I had to buy it without seeing it first and I was hesitant to do that. I read many reviews which is why I'm writing this one. At first I thought I might return it.
Pros:
  • Fast/accurate auto-focus
  • Good Image Quality
  • Good Image Stabilization
  • Good in Low Light
  • Great Zoom
  • Large Clear LCD
  • Love The Moveable Lcd Scr
  • Nice Body Color
  • Short Lag Time
  • Small / Compact
Cons:
  • Tripod Use Limits Access

Still getting to know the camera, but have done a couple of good HD videos with it. Great that it has F2.8 through entire zoom range. One of the reasons I chose this model is because I use DXO raw image converter for my DSLR and it has a module for this camera.

SLR functionality with a high end lens

The advantage this camera offers over anything else I have seen with an f2.8 aperture all the way from 25mm to 600mm, appears to be a technological breakthrough. Most telephotos only go down to f5 or f6 at the longer ranges.
Pros:
  • High end quality, reliable brand, perhaps one of the fastest telephotos available with f2.8 at the full 600mm zoom
  • Well laid out controls, most if not all of the functionality of a good DSLR. Double the zoom of most DSLR lenses, at a larger aperture.
Cons:
  • DSLR's generally have larger image sensors
  • and higher megapixel count
  • which together can equate to better quality pictures at the outer limits of photography
  • if used with equivalent or better quality lenses
