Review: Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 mirrorless camera

For the past couple of years my own personal and work camera has been a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 mirrorless camera. Easy to use, but with a great deal of power; my experience with it is necessarily going to partly inform this review of its successor at the top of the Panasonic digital camera heap:...

First class video and photo performance; fast and accurate focus; twin cards; excellent glass on tested model; highly flexible view screen

Quite the price increase since the DMC-GH4; still got the "Display" button in an place where it gets tripped accidentally

Panasonic has launched its latest flagship model- LUMIX GH5 which is capable of recording smooth, high precision 4k 60p/50p video and 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 30p/25p internal video for the first time in the world.

Panasonic GH5: The ultimate hybrid video and stills camera

Panasonic's GH series of compact system cameras (CSCs) have been the hugely popular with amateur and independent filmmakers ever since the GH1 burst onto the scene in 2009. The GH4 made the leap to 4K in 2014, and with its outstanding picture quality, sublime ergonomics and a bumper set of features...

Outstanding video quality; Pro-level video features; Superb ergonomics for photos and video

New features will be beyond some users' needs; Photo noise levels slightly higher than from direct competitors; More expensive than the GH4

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5

This review follows on from our detailed 'First Look' article that was published in March 2017. We have now been allowed a longer time with a production-quality GH5 plus the Leica-branded DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. (H-ES12060E) lens , which is reviewed separately.

No single company has pushed 4K video like Panasonic. Its GH series has represented the best blend of sharp photos and pro-grade video in a single package.

The Camera I've been praying for.

I did write a lengthy review for you but unfortunately when I submitted it down below it came up with an error and lost it all. I would have liked to rewrite it but it's taken me a couple of hours to compose and I'm not sure whether the same thing will happen again. Sorry.....

Exceeds my expectations in ALL categories

Too often the hype exceeds the delivered product. Not in this case! The GH5 feels right in all of my uses whether photos or video. I had originally planned to put it in the air under my DJI M600P, but am rethinking that more because I enjoy using it on the ground so much.

Easy to use; Exceeded expectations; well balanced

Panasonic Lumix GH5 review

The Lumix GH5 is Panasonic's most powerful mirrorless camera to date and a worthy successor to the GH4, whether you're shooting stills or movies. It's fast, flexible and feature-packed, easily taking-on rivals in this category and out-performing virtually anything at its price for video.

Let's stipulate up front that video is what's driving most of the interest in the GH5.It's packed with video features, several of which we've never seen on a stills camera before. But don't assume the GH5 is only about video.
