Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ80

The Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ80 delivers an incredible amount of zoom coverage for not a lot of money. It uses the same lens as its predecessor, but improves on fit and finish, sporting a better, touch-enabled rear LCD, a sharper EVF, Wi-Fi, and 4K video, all missing on the bargain-oriented FZ70.

Huge 60x zoom range; Fast autofocus; 10fps Raw capture; 30fps 4K Photo capture; Touch LCD; Sharp EVF; Wi-Fi

No EVF eye sensor; Fixed rear LCD; Limited Raw buffer; Omits 24fps video capture; Telephoto video shows wobble effect

Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ80 Superzoom Camera Review

The Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ80 is a superzoom bridge camera for photographers on a budget. It features a small, 1/2.33-inch sensor with a resolution of 18MP. A massive lens system in the Panasonic FZ80 provides a focal length range between 20-1200mm (35mm film equivalent) and a whopping 60x zoom.

Scorecard; + 60x zoom lens with real wide-angle setting and ultra-tele function; + 18MP photo resolution and 4K video combined in a very compact system; + Inexpensive camera for photographers on a budget

- Very small sensor produces noisy images that lack detail; - Hard to master photo and video recording with 1200mm even when using the stabilizer system; - Fixed LCD on the back

Panasonic Lumix FZ80 / FZ82 review

The Panasonic Lumix FZ80 / FZ82 is a bridge super-zoom with a 60x optical zoom lens, 18 Megapixel sensor, a fixed, 3-inch touch screen and a built-in viewfinder. It replaces the still-available Lumix FZ70 / FZ72 retaining the older model's lens but updating the sensor, screen and viewfinder, as well...

3 inch touch screen; 4K video and 4K photo modes; Greatly improved full resolution 10fps continuous shooting; One of the best Wifi implementations around; USB charging

Noise at 80 ISO base sensitivity; Loose viewfinder dioptre adjustment

Panasonic LUMIX FZ80 4K Point and Shoot Camera Review

With consumer camera equipment increasing in performance and decreasing in price, manufacturers are looking for new ways to give themselves an edge. One way to do so is through video. In the past, you'd have needed a dedicated video camera if you wanted high quality video.

Not that pleased so far

So far not overly impressed. Great reviews on this camera but I've not been impressed with most of the photos I've taken. I also have a Canon SX40 HS and the pictures/video seem to be much better than the Panasonic.

Panasonic Lumix FZ80 / FZ82

With DSLRs and mirrorless cameras seemingly dominating the camera market you could be forgiven for wondering where, exactly, a bridge camera sits within this competitive arena. But they do offer something unique.

Easy to use; Powerful optical zoom; Touchscreen LCD; Effective image stabilization

EVF magnification poor; No eye sensor for EVF; Weak high-ISO performance

Panasonic Lumix FZ80 - Feature Rich

While the FZ80 boasts a very light weight design, it is still a bit bulkier in size than some of their other recent entry level cameras. It sports a more DSLR-like design than compact cameras like the Lumix GX850, but doesn't seem to have the extra features to warrant the bulkiness.

Decent value; Enough features for most users; Fantastic image stabilisation

A little confused; Huge zoom feels unnecessary; No interchangeable lenses

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ80 Review

We liked the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ70 thanks to its long zoom lens, low cost, and strong image quality. But it had some serious shortcomings in the bells and whistles department. The DC-FZ80 ($399.99) keeps the same lens and ticks up the price, but for the extra money you get Wi-Fi, a better EVF, a touch LCD, and 4K video capture. It's a better overall camera, though not quite our favorite bridge superzoom. The Canon PowerShot SX60 HS is still our Editors' Choice, but the Panasonic is a good alternative if you don't have the budget for the Canon. Design The FZ80 ($467.99 at Amazon) is your typical bridge point-and-shoot. It marries a small (1/2.3-inch) image sensor to a big zoom lens, putting the two together in a body that's about the size of a small SLR. Putting that glass in front of a sensor type developed for pocket-friendly cameras allows for an incredible zoom range, much more than you'd get from any SLR lens, in a package that measures 3.7 by 5.1 by 4.7 inches (HWD) and wei...

Panasonic's Lumix DC-FZ80 camera gives you a ton of zoom for not much money, and includes support for Raw images and 4K video.

Huge 60x zoom range; Fast autofocus; 10fps Raw capture; 30fps 4K Photo capture; Touch LCD; Sharp EVF; Wi-Fi

No EVF eye sensor; Fixed rear LCD; Limited Raw buffer; Omits 24fps video capture; Telephoto video shows wobble effect
