Oppo Find X review

It’s super expensive, has a slightly overbearing version of Android, and doesn’t take the best photos - but if you’re ready to drop close to a grand on a phone, the Find X is an excellent smartphone. There’s nothing else out there that’ll turn heads like this will, thanks to the near-bezel free design and clever camera mechanism. It’s got the performance and battery life you’d want from a flagship phone, and a display that looks the business too. The Galaxy S8 might have set the trend, but Samsung hasn’t really moved things on any further since then - leaving brands like Oppo to do the truly groundbreaking stuff. Every time that camera pops up, it makes you feel like you’re using a Star Trek communicator rather than a smartphone. You can’t help but love it for that - in spite of a few flaws.

Pop-up camera is as slick as you like; Performance and storage on tap; Great battery keeps going;

Software a bit on the shonky side; Camera isn’t up there with the best flagships; It’ll leave a serious dent in your wallet;

Oppo Find X review: Sexier and more innovative than the Galaxy S9

At first glance, the Oppo Find X looks like the most beautiful Samsung Galaxy S9 you've ever seen, with a massive display and gorgeous curved sides. But this slick, futuristic phone has an innovative identity that barrels it past the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus: a true all-screen display with a module for rear and selfie cameras that slides up when you want to take a shot. The pop-up camera array may sound gimmicky, but it's actually a clever idea that frees up screen real estate and helps keeps the phone's backing clean and beautiful to behold.

The Oppo Find X's supercool pop-up camera and beautiful, all-screen design make it the best-looking phone of 2018. It's also one of the best phones this year, period.

The Oppo Find X has a beautiful design, a great camera and long battery life with fast charging; It also has top-of-the-line features such as 3D face scanning for unlocking.

There's no wireless charging and it's not waterproof; It can get a little hot when gaming, and isn't yet sold outside Asia.

Oppo Find X review

The Oppo Find X is a beautiful jumble of a phone with many great ideas. But the futuristic design, good cameras and excellent face unlock technology can’t save it from feeling like a concept phone. This is largely down to the quirky software that often is at odds with common sense. Oppo clearly went to a lot of trouble to change Android so far from what Google considers stock, and it suffers greatly for it. Even with stock Android we’d be worried about the camera mechanism on the phone too, given it could conceivably break easier than a phone with no moving parts. The Find X is amazing, but it’s not a phone we can recommend if you want a flagship phone to last you two years. There are too many pitfalls.

Oppo Find X: Full, in-depth review

When all is said and done, 2018 will probably end up being looked back upon as the year that Chinese brands like Oppo and Huawei stopped playing catch-up to global titans like Apple and Samsung.

There’s a hidden cost accompanying the Find X’s unique camera, but most will probably find it worth paying.

All-screen look is gorgeous; Great performance;

No wireless charging or waterproofing; Hidden camera is a dust-magnet;
