OnePlus Nord 12+256GB Grey Onyx MP 04043 review

The OnePlus Nord is one of OnePlus' strongest launches ever, just because it offers so much for such a low price. Like the OnePlus 7 Pro launch last year, the Nord is one of those phones that is just so miles ahead of its Android competition, it will probably compare favorably to mid-range phones...

A 90Hz display, at this price range, is an absolutely killer feature; A flat, distortion-free display, just like every content, app, and website creator intended; A modern, slim bezel design that is indistinguishable from a flagship smartphone.

OnePlus doesn't do monthly security updates. It'll be more like every other month; No always-on display; Facebook crapware; Shipping six mediocre cameras instead of two good cameras.

OnePlus Nord 12+256GB Grey Onyx MP 04043 review

OnePlus Nord Software And User Experience We really like OnePlus’ take on Android 10. OxygenOS 10.5 (as it’s called) is quick, smooth, and always a pleasure to use. Most importantly, it’s almost stock.

Really nice 90Hz display; Good enough cameras w/ OIS; Excellent performance; Stock Android; Great value

Plastic mid-frame; really?; Not sold in the US; No wireless charging; No headphone jack

OnePlus Nord 12+256GB Grey Onyx MP 04043 review

OnePlus has done a good job with the Nord. The Blue Marble version has a distinctive appearance, a great AMOLED screen and good front and rear cameras. These are all important factors whatever your budget.

Distinctive and attractive design; Dual front and quad rear cameras; 5G and dual SIMs; High-quality 90Hz AMOLED screen; Fast charging; Oxygen OS is both capable and subtle

Battery life could be better; Disappointing speaker; No IP rating for dust/water resistance; No 3.5mm headset jack or MicroSD card slot

OnePlus Nord 12+256GB Grey Onyx MP 04043 review

There’s been a lot of talk about how OnePlus seems to be going back to its roots with its latest phone, the OnePlus Nord. This is a brand that first made a name for itself by offering similar specs to competing flagships at a much lower price.

90Hz OLED display; Sub-6GHz 5G; Worry-free battery life

Processor holds back display; More cameras than it knows what to do with; No headphone jack

OnePlus Nord 12+256GB Grey Onyx MP 04043 review

On paper, OnePlus is doing everything right with its first midrange smartphone in years. The Nord looks the business, packs a rich, flagship-grade design and combines a tried and tested rear-camera set-up with a dual-selfie camera - cue the youth appeal.

Simple; premium design; Low-cost 5G; Best-in-class screen

No telephoto camera; Underwhelming ultra-wide shots; Poor macro camera; No wireless charging

OnePlus Nord 12+256GB Blue Marble MP 04044 review

OnePlus’ return to mid-range smartphones presents some strong competition to both older flagships and the current crop of budget devices. It has a big 6.4-inch screen that can run at 90Hz for a smoother software experience.

Big 90Hz screen; A mid-range smartphone with 5G; Capable cameras; Tempting price

Middleweight Snapdragon processor sometimes chokes on heavier tasks; Cheap screen protector pre-installed; Phones this big aren’t for everyone; Not coming to the US

OnePlus Nord 12+256GB Blue Marble MP 04044 review

The OnePlus Nord is a smooth, attractive phone that shows what we're missing in the US when it comes to affordable 5G handsets.

Affordable; Gorgeous build; Excellent front-facing cameras; Fast and smooth performance

Doesn't work well on US networks

OnePlus Nord 12+256GB Grey Onyx MP 04043 review

The OnePlus Nord should be your new default choice for a midrange Android phone. It's already a bargain for the tech it offers, but combined with OnePlus' hardware and software design sensibilities, the Nord manages to feel special despite its low price.

Affordable price, Six cameras, 90Hz refresh rate, Polished design for a budget phone, Excellent battery life

Macro camera is ineffective, Average performance, Lacks wireless charging, No US availability

OnePlus Nord Dual SIM 5G (12GB RAM, 256GB, Blue) - BRAND NEW review

July 21st saw OnePlus release its latest handset: the OnePlus Nord. This new addition to the OnePlus line is aimed squarely at those who want flagship features at an affordable price.

Inexpensive, Great camera, Nice software tweaks, Zen Mode, Plenty of storage and RAM, Looks like a flagship handset

Lots of comparable alternatives, Camera bump protrudes too far from the handset, Downgraded chipset, No SD card slot

OnePlus Nord 12+256GB Grey Onyx MP 04043 review

OnePlus Nord was released in the Summer of 2020 in just about every global smartphone market but North America. If you’re living in Europe or India, you’re in luck, this is a surprisingly high-quality phone for a very reasonable price.

Low cost; 90hz refresh rate AMOLED display; 5G connectivity; Well designed case included in box; Android / OxygenOS both smooth and decent

No USA availability; No wireless charging
