Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS
The Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS ($399.99 direct) is not your typical rugged point-and-shoot camera . This pocket shooter looks more like a traditional camera-its lens is centered rather than perched in the corner-and has a fast f/2 aperture on the wide end.
Pros:
- Excellent high ISO performance
- Fast f/2 lens
- Snappy performance
- Accepts filters and conversion lenses
- GPS and digital compass
- Macro LED light
Cons:
- Not the sharpest lens
- No dedicated battery charger

Olympus' Tough TG-1 iHS rugged camera to beat
Instead of producing just another really rugged camera (which it is), the Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS has something no other model currently offers: a bright f2.0 maximum aperture. In fact, the other rugged compacts on the market -- including those from Olympus -- have fairly slow lenses with maximum...
Pros:
- The Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS is water-, dust-, freeze-, shock-, and crushproof
- has fast shooting performance for its class
- and has a fast lens with the capability to add on converter lenses for more shooting flexibility
Cons:
- The TG-1 iHS has some minor design issues
- such as a proprietary charging cable
- that might turn some buyers off

Olympus Tough TG-1 review
The 4.5-18mm (25-100mm equivalent) wide zoom lens has a maximum aperture of f/2-4.9, with the 4x optical zoom lens ideal for most situations, although I would prefer a slightly longer focal length.

Tough-cams have come a long way over the past few years, but they've been best used as specialty cameras for the outdoors. Days at the beach, adventures on a mountain, a weekend at the slopes-whatever, as long as it was outside, in bright light.

I have had this camera over a month. I pre-ordered and got the camera a few days ahead of the release date. Right out of the box I liked the camera but wanted to wait till after a trip to Disney to really see how it preformed.

[REVIEW-OLYMPUS TG-1 TOUGH]
This 12mp camera with its bright f2–4.9 zoom (25–100mm) can be dropped two metres, submerged to twelve, frozen to -10 and sat on without doing any harm. (We didn't test the claims!) The handsome body is also dust proof, so you can take it to the Sahara or up Everest.

Olympus Tough TG-1
The TG-1 is the best tough camera from Olympus yet. The total redesign over previous models, as well as a whole new suite of internal specs, ensures that many of the issues that plagued previous cameras in the range are no longer a problem.
Pros:
- Strong macro performance
- A range of add-on lenses are available
- Incredibly tough credentials
Cons:
- Lens zoom sound detracts from audio quality of video recordings
- Overly saturated blue channel in some situations

Olympus TG-1 review
Olympus has a long-running reputation for being at the forefront of 'life-proof' compact camera development, frequently being the first to implement new technologies and lead the way in terms of the amount of punishment its cameras can take.
