Olympus TG-1
The TG-820 is an interesting waterproof compact that's held back by an ageing lens. Olympus has has therefore gone back to the drawing board to concoct a genuine high-end underwater snapper with features that should help set...
Pros:
- Waterproof to 12 m
- shockproof from heights of 2 m
- crushproof to 100 kg
- Nice build and finish
- good design and handling
- pleasant OLED screen
- Secure-locking compartments
- Excellent responsiveness once running
- Incredible macro mode
Cons:
- A bit chunky to handle and quite heavy
- Zoom controls on back of camera (not practical for one-handed use
- Lens sharpness at max aperture in wide-angle (and no Av mode to get around that
- Slow start-up
- Sound in video mode could be better

Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS Review
Looking for a tough cam? Then the TG-1 should be at the top of your list. It's hard to justify many other comparably priced units which have fewer features and capabilities.
Pros:
- Attachment lens options
- Quick
- easy-to-use settings
- Bright
- clear display
- F2.0 lens is a big help with low-light shooting
Cons:
- A better sensor and more manual controls are on the wish list
- Button click could be harder

Olympus has a long-running reputation for being at the forefront of 'life-proof' compact camera development, frequently being the first to implement new technologies and lead the way in terms of the amount of punishment its cameras can take.

Olympus Tough TG-1
Olympus, it has to be said, knows a thing or two about the ‘tough' or ‘ruggedised' digital compact camera market, having practically invented it with the launch of the mju range in 2003.
Pros:
- Fast f/2 maximum aperture
- Good OLED screen
- Speedy continuous shooting
Cons:
- Inconsistent metering issues
- Optical accessories prohibitively priced

Perfect, until it met sand
Bought the camera for the family cruise to the Bahamas this week, and it was perfect until we got to the beach. Within the first hour, the shutter button started sticking, then all the other buttons did as well, sand that got in between them had dug themselves so far into the camera that I couldn't...
Pros:
- Great features
- great pictures
Cons:
- Raised or open buttons allow sand to get in and then they're stuck

Olympus Tough TG-1 Digital Camera Review
It's obvious to see from the product images that the Olympus TG-1 is a 'tough' camera with its overall metal and rubber construction it certainly appears to be a rather sturdy & serious camera.

Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS
The Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS ($399.99 direct) is not your typical rugged point-and-shoot camera . This pocket shooter looks more like a traditional camera-its lens is centered rather than perched in the corner-and has a fast f/2 aperture on the wide end.
Pros:
- Excellent high ISO performance
- Fast f/2 lens
- Snappy performance
- Accepts filters and conversion lenses
- GPS and digital compass
- Macro LED light
Cons:
- Not the sharpest lens
- No dedicated battery charger

I have had this camera over a month. I pre-ordered and got the camera a few days ahead of the release date. Right out of the box I liked the camera but wanted to wait till after a trip to Disney to really see how it preformed.

- f/2 maximum aperture
- general performance
Cons:
- Exposure issues
- optical accessories prohibitively priced

Olympus TG-1
Given Olympus all but created the ruggedised compact camera segment with its Tough range of cameras, it's no surprise that the TG-1 is an exceptionally solid performer.
