Olympus Pen E-PL7 Review

This latest offering from Olympus features the 16.1-million-pixel sensor that has proved popular in the OM-D E-M5, but as well as the sensor, the E-PL7 shares many of the features of the OM-D E-M10, minus a viewfinder and built-in flash.

Good-quality; 16.1-million-pixel Live MOS sensor; Metal frame with stylish design; Responsive touchscreen

Vulnerable and fiddly tilting screen; Small and tightly packed controls; No viewfinder

Olympus PEN EPL7 review

The Olympus PEN E-PL7 is probably the most significant development in the PEN range since its launch in 2009. On the one hand Olympus needed to find a way to advance the PEN that wouldn't encroach on the territory of its advanced OMD mirrorless models.

Forward facing 3:2 touch-screen; Self shot modes; Wifi with smartphone remote control; 3-axis in-body stabilisation

Poor quality kit lens judging from two samples; Screen can't flip forwards when tripod-mounted; Lack of touch buttons for changing selfie settings

Olympus E-PL7 Review

Olympus E-PL7 Review - With a compact body and 16.1MP sensor, as well as a tilting LCD screen, the E-PL7 is targeted towards the 'selfie' generation who are looking to travel light.

Solid metal build; Touchscreen is certainly responsive; 16MP sensor delivers solid results

Small size means sacrifices have been made with usability; Tilting screen design is poor

Olympus PEN E-PL7 Review – First Impressions

Hardware is really good in Olympus as compare to previous models, improved LCDs, battery life and shutter shake makes it good deal.

Olympus E-PL7

The Olympus E-PL7 brings significant upgrades to the popular PEN "lite" mirrorless camera line, most notably in the form of improved ergonomics and a more professional feel, bringing it more in line with the flagship E-P5.

Excellent image quality for its class including very good ISO performance; Improved performance and ergonomics over the E-PL5; LCD tilts 180 degree downward for easier selfies; Upgraded 3-axis IS system

No built-in flash (but a small add-on flash is included); No built-in EVF; Default colors somewhat muted; Somewhat quirky menu system

Olympus Pen E-PL7

I saw a pre-production model of this unit back in the summer. Now finally as winter grips us all the chance to review it arrives. For me a first, a removable lens camera marketed with the ability to take selfies high on its tick list.

A wonderful piece of equipment

What a gem! Beautifully made, and once you have set it up so that you can access the 'Super Control Panel' it becomes an OM-D, just without the viewfinder. In fact it is more capable than my EM5 in several respects.

Loving for the WiFi

I have always had Olympus cameras since I bought my first camera when I was 11. This camera does not disappoint. I am loving this for its WiFi feature which makes it so easy to transfer photos. It takes great photos in most lighting situations, haven't used the flash attachment yet.

Great little M43 Camera

I really like the PEN like from Olympus as I think it is the most true in size and form factor for the Micro 4/3rds line. I also have the flagship OM-D EM1, however so I'm a bit spoiled by the feature set. Still, for all around shooting, the PL7 is a sweet camera.
