Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5
Olympus's PEN Lite E-PL5 is the fourth generation product in its line and the best PEN camera to date in our opinion. While it could be seen as an incremental update rather than a major re-build, it has the same 16.1-megapixel LiveMOS sensor and TruePic VI image processor as the renowned OM-D E-M5.
Pros:
- You want a smart-looking mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses
- raw file capture plus in-camera image stabilisation and effective dust reduction technology
- You'd like Full HD video recording with stereophonic sound
- You'd appreciate relatively fast autofocusing.
Cons:
- You require a built-in viewfinder and/or flash
- You have large hands and/or limited dexterity

This is a company that continues to produce cameras that appeal to a wide variety of consumers. And by marrying the best technologies from the Olympus OM-D with the stylish bodies of the PEN series, Olympus has a potential big seller on its hands here.

The Olympus PEN E-PL5 is a mid-range mirror-less compact system camera (CSC) with a 16 Megapixel sensor and a 3in articulated touch screen. Like all Olympus CSCs, the PEN E-PL5 employs the Micro Four Thirds standard and this model sits in the middle of the retro-styled PEN range between the...

Olympus has seen great success in the mirrorless camera world with its PEN series. The line's latest iteration is the E-PL5, a micro 4/3 camera that shares a few details with its more expensive brother, the OMD-EM5. It shoots beautifully—what's the catch?

Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 review
The Olympus E-PL5, otherwise known as the "PEN Lite", is the fourth iteration of the E-PL series. It's been a bit of a roller-coaster ride since this Micro Four Thirds series' conception: we've had moments of brilliance such as the retro design; but brilliance occasionally marred by apparent madness...
Pros:
- Great image quality as per OM-D E-M5
- decent build quality
- useful Art Filters
- touchscreen
- full range of Micro Four Thirds lenses
Cons:
- Flash is hotshoe-mounted only (not necessarily a problem)
- plastic grip looks a bit cheap
- continuous autofocus still not quite there
- ISO 200 minimum

[REVIEW-OLYMPUS PEN E-PL5 compact system camera]
This 16 megapixel camera uses the same sensor as the OMD E-M5, which means good low light, low noise performance and, with the kit lens, fast auto focus. The touch sensitive LCD swivels on one plane. Focus can be set and shutter fired with one touch on the critical point on the screen.

This one is a Winner!
I moved up from an Olympus PL2 to this PL5. The added technology of larger sensor, tilt LCD screen, touch focus/shutter, are vast improvements to increate your photographic creativity. I had to give up the pop up flash on the PL2, but a little external fill flash unit IS included in the kit.
Pros:
- Easy to Use
- Fast Shutter Speed
- Good Battery Life
- Great image stabilization
- Large Clear LCD
- Small / Compact
Cons:
- Complicated Controls
