Retro is in. Or at least, most camera-makers seem to be saying so. Though I\'ve never found anything wrong in that approach, it does seem like the legendary OM series from Olympus has taken a step in the wrong direction and seems to have lost itself in the design wilderness.

Olympus OMD EM1 review

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Olympus OMD EM1 is a triumph, a highly satisfying camera that I can highly recommend to anyone who wants semi-pro performance and handling without the heft of a traditional DSLR.

Excellent image quality with very usable OOC JPEGs; Weather-proof body; Built-in stabilisation works with any lens you attach; Superb ergonomics; controls & customization; Large & detailed electronic viewfinder.

Image quality no better than EM5 or GX7; Continuous AF isn't as confident as a DSLR using v/f; Phase Detect AF not used for movies or MFT lenses; Movies only available at 30fps; Focus peaking only for stills; not movies; Timelapse & miniature movies encoded at low frame rate; Only one memory card...

Best mirrorless camera period!

The Olympus OMD E-M1 is the best mirrorless camera on the market, period. Everything about this camera just works and works flawlessly. Image quality is outstanding. With no AA filter, the images are sharp and colors punchy. Viewfinder is the best EVF on the market (as of this writing).

Awesome IQ (image quality) Blazing fast focus/operation Excellent build quality Best EVF/LCD screen Best 5 axis image stabilization Small size (compared to DSLRs) Tilting LCD screen Weather sealed Great handling Customizable dials/buttons Just works

No 24p video

On the other side of the bodyshell – which comprises magnesium alloy covers and is both fully sealed and insulated – is a dedicated compartment for the memory card which is just so much more convenient than having it share the battery's compartment in the base.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Review: Flagship Phenom

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 is a fantastic mirrorless camera that is designed for the advanced or professional shooter. Those without sophisticated photography knowledge will get easily lost in the numerous features and functionality.

Great image quality; Weather proofed; Awesome grip; Great autofocus; Great viewfinder and LCD screen; DSLR-like feature set

Noise can be an issue at high ISOs; Cost; No second memory card slot

Love My OM-D E-M1

I love using this camera and the Olympus micro four thirds lenses so much that I have sold both my entire Nikon D7100 kit and Sony RX100 pocket camera. It is the perfect blend of size/weight and all the features an enthusiast would want.

Build Quality And Layout; Evf A Plus Vs Pentaprism; Focus peaking; Light weight and compact; Wysiwyg In Evf

Works great, and is very fast

Works great, and is very fast. I use this with the Olympus 75 f1.8 to shoot hockey, and the AF with the latest firmware is fantastic. Much better AF than any of Olympus's previous efforts including their SLR's.

Olympus has been pumping out cameras in its OM-D (Olympus Mirrorless Digital) series for a while now. It started back in 2009 with the arrival of the Olympus PEN E-P1, a retro camera that was a digital successor to its well-regarded analogue PEN cameras.
