I have waited almost a year before writing this review to give myself time for an honest evaluation. I was a former Canon shooter for probably 30+ years. A couple of years ago I invested in an EM5 MkII and started building a lens collection to match the Pro lineup I was used to with Canon.

I consider myself an Olympus fan. I own two EM-1s and an EM10 and range of Olympus lens including several pro lens. I agree with the accolades directed towards the camera - small in size, beautiful feel in the hands, sharp pictures, a wonderful set of lens to use.

I love using this camera and the Olympus micro four thirds lenses so much that I have sold both my entire Nikon D7100 kit and Sony RX100 pocket camera. It is the perfect blend of size/weight and all the features an enthusiast would want.

Battery life

The Olympus OMD E-M1 is the best mirrorless camera on the market, period. Everything about this camera just works and works flawlessly. Image quality is outstanding. With no AA filter, the images are sharp and colors punchy. Viewfinder is the best EVF on the market (as of this writing).

I previously owned a Panasonic DMC-G5 and a DMC-GH3. I was reading reviews that this Olympus camera had the best image quality in the Micro Four Thirds world but I was hesitating to move to that one. And this was mainly to the reviews that it was a bit complex to use etc.

This is my on the go camera these days. I have a DSLR user for a long time but the size of them keeps them on the shelf. OMD EM1 is very intuitive, versatile especially with the Pro Lens12-40 mm f2.8. From landscape to headshot photograpy. It is fast enough for action photo for my use and taste.

I work intensively in entomology museums to photographs TYPES of wild bee species (mainly bumblebees Bombus and flower-bees Anthophora). I now use a "light" kit to transport my stacking material in hand-luggage.

Hang on, you might be saying; whilst the 16.3 effective megapixel OM-D E-M1 may outwardly resemble a DSLR it's not actually one in the strictest sense, on account of being a mirror-less model.
