Olympus ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 7-14mm 1:4.0 review

When the Four Thirds digital SLR system was first announced, one of the most exciting prospects was a range of brand new lenses, designed exclusively from the ground-up for digital use.

World's widest digital zoom lens; Excellent build quality; Splash and dust proof; f4.0 aperture throughout range; Impressive technical results

Pricier than ultra-wide zooms for other DSLRs; Some fringing at wide angle

Olympus 7-14mm f/4 Zuiko Digital review by MartinM

I have tested several wide angel lenses Sony Zeiss 16-35 Canon EF 16-35 II Canon EF 17-40 and among these, the Zuiko is the best lens, followed by the Zeiss. Canon has really no wide angle that has usable corners nor an acceptable sharpness wide open.

Wide; excellent IQ; almsot without disortion

none so far

Awesome lens, very expensive, but worth every single penny

This is an awesome lens: the pictures are sharp, the colours vivid, the contrast excellent, the vignetting minimal (no small feat for an ultra-wide-angle lens). I use a Leica Vario-Elmarit 14-50 as a standard lens, which is still a bit sharper.

Love this lens

Love this lens! The clarity is amazing and like one of the other reviewers said, it is tough to go back to my standard lenses after using this one. The lens is heavy and can put quite a strain on the neck. It is great for capturing crazy angles in architecture photography.

This is an awesome lens! There is no pincushion or barrel distortion, nor vingetting at any zoom setting. I sometimes use it for art photography, and the edges of a framed piece of art line up perfectly with the image edges. It demands a different way of shooting.

Simply incredible quality -- both optically, and build quality; Water-resistant design.

Big, heavy, expensive; I'm a prime shooter, and I use this lens 90% of the time at 7mm, 10% at 14mm, and almost never in-between.

The 114 degree coverage is very good

I find this lens acceptable for some Architectural photography both exterior and exterior shots.

Great for landscapes and most general photography

Has enough Fish eye tendency at the edges to limit some Commercial Architectural photography

WOW!!

From shooting ATT Giants Stadium to an Orthodox Church in low light this lens is amazing. The 7-14mm almost acts like my 2.0 14-35 and 35-100 lens. It sucks up the light to produce a very clear image from edge to edge with spectacular colors.

My go to lens for close up and editorial work.

"This lens has magnificent scope and the glass is absolutely tack sharp. The continuous f2.8 allows for brilliant colour and contrast even in low light conditions. By utilizing the level gauge in my E-M5 mk II viewfinder there is little to no noticeable distortion at all.
