[REVIEW-OLYMPUS E-620 DSLR]

This 12 megapixel DSLR is the latest iteration of the Olympus Four Thirds system. It has the effective supersonic sensor dust removal system and image stabilisation by sensor shift that we now expect from Olympus. A four stop advantage is claimed for image stabilisation.
Pros:
  • Olympus kit lenses are a cut above the rest, and the lens supplied with this camera is no exception
  • Mechanically and optically the Olympus lenses are outstanding
  • Resolution and contrast are good
  • And beyond the kit lenses are the Olympus professional quality lenses which are expensive but superb
Cons:
  • Auto white balance is not great
  • The viewfinder is a little cramped compared with the conventional competition
  • This is a product of the smaller sensor

Olympus E-620 Review / Test Report

Over the recent years it was sometimes difficult to understand Olympus' DSLR marketing strategy but recently they got their act together with a pretty straightforward lineup starting with the budget-class E-420 & E-520, the "prosumer" E-30 up to the professional grade E-3.
Pros:
  • compact and light-weight
  • efficient in-body image stabilizer
  • good phase-detection AF
  • immense feature set
Cons:
  • mediocre RAW potential due to strong AA filter
  • questionable positioning of the control dial
  • slow contrast detection AF

Olympus E-620 Review

When we reviewed the E-30, we liked just about everything about the camera – except the price. When the E-620 came along, it seemed like exactly the answer we – and, we're betting, a lot of other shooters – are looking for: the E-30's creative advantages for casual shooters and those who don't...
Pros:
  • E-30 technology for less
  • Very nice kit lens
  • Useful Art Filters mode
Cons:
  • Hit or miss AF
  • Quirky live view
  • Noisier than competition
