If you're a Four-Thirds system user there is no doubt that the E-5 is a step up from the E-3 and is a camera that would meet the needs of a professional, even when shooting in adverse environments including dusty and wet conditions (the E-5 is "splashproof").

Olympus E-5 DSLR Digital Camera Review
Focussing with the Olympus Zuiko Digital 12-60mm SWD lens (RRP $1499), which was also used in our E-3 review was once again a breeze. The lens focuses very fast in bright light and does a good job in low light, and most importantly with a high focus strike rate across the board.

Olympus E-5 review
A 12.3 million pixel sensor borrowed from the E-PL1, a new TruePic V+ processing engine, 720p movie recording and an electronic level are all improvements that the Olympus E-5 has on the E-3, but is that enough to tempt Four Thirds photographers to buy an E-5?

[REVIEW-OLYMPUS E–5 DSLR]
This 12.3 megapixel camera is aimed at professionals and "the creative enthusiast." It is a Four Thirds system camera, meaning that [ ]. Construction is rugged with all points where water or dust might enter fully sealed. Indestructibility comes at a price – this is a heavy camera.
Pros:
- Images shot at up to ISO800 are outstanding
- We like the Olympus jpeg style, but if that doesn't appeal there is always RAW
- The camera is very responsive and fast to focus and fire
- There could be something in the claim to be the fastest auto-focus in the world
Cons:
- The video function is poor
- 720p doesn't cut it in this day and age when even compact cameras make a decent job of 1080i
- But it is the incredibly slow, noisy and inaccurate auto-focus in live view that kills enthusiasm for video

Amazing Camera
I had been using an Olympus E510 for the last 5 years and wanted to upgrade the camera, I am a published photographer but its not my main source of income. I thought about changing systems as the Canon or Nikon's out there looked a good way to go for someone working at my level.

Great camera, well laid out controls, great quality
I moved up from my E3 to this camera and was delighted with the increased picture quality. I shoot mainly in manual mode with RAW output as I enjoy the challenge of getting the shot as I see it.

The E-5 presents a good upgrade path for those amateur and professional photographers working with the Olympus Four Thirds system. It's been a good few years between the top-end digital SLR refresh for Olympus, with the E-3 being well and truly due for an upgrade. This new Four Thirds camera, the E-5, is full of considered and incremental updates from the older camera, with an emphasis on improving image quality rather than racing for more megapixels.
Pros:
- Magnesium alloy construction
- Weather-sealed
- Art filters, especially the dramatic tone, are great
- Excellent dynamic range
- Speedy AF.
Cons:
- No full HD video recording
- Falls behind other competitors on top-line specs
- Slow AF in Live View
- No customisable card slots.
