Octopath Traveler Review – An Ageless Adventure

There's no school like the old school as Square Enix takes us back to a classic era with Octopath Traveler, a traditional turn-based role-playing game that ticks all of the boxes sought after by the old people who still remember playing Final Fantasy on their Super Nintendo.

"Pretty Darn Awesome"

Great visual effects with the hybrid 2D and 3D mash up. Really awesome battle system. Only one down side would be that your character doesn't change outfits or weapons when equipping a new item. All in all, a very beautifully crafted game!

What is in a name Some JRPGs have absolutely weird names that never seem to get explained. Octopath Traveler is quite a mouthful, but it at least makes sense. Octopath, besides being eight paths, is the first letter of each character's name: Ophelia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Therion...

Strong cast of characters; English and Japanese voice acting; Solid tactical combat system

Random difficulty spikes between characters; Shops are not always the best place for gear; Not all story sections are voiced; Guide actions border on busywork

Octopath Traveler Review

Octopath Traveler draws inspiration from a lot of places that makes it feel almost like a classic Final Fantasy game from the early nineties. It is said to be a sort of spiritual successor to these classic games and from the opening right until the end, this is clear.

Octopath Traveler (Nintendo Switch) Review

Octopath Traveler comes from the same minds that brought the world Bravely Default , and it definitely shows. There's something about the idea of returning to the roots of the JRPG that Square Enix can't seem to quite get out of its head, and this is its newest take.

Impeccably pixelated paths - Octopath Traveler Review

It's no easy task to combine the old with the new; gamers may yearn for the good old days, but few things will turn even the most nostalgic retrogamer off like dated mechanics and tedious gameplay.

Gorgeous retro-modern graphics; 50+ hours of gameplay; plus sidequests; Strategic; turn-based; only occasionally monotonous combat; Unique characters; abilities; and skill sets

Surprisingly little and limited character interaction; Some character stories are stronger than others; Grinding is required

Incredibly good rpg. Story, gameplay, graphics / atmosphere are amazing. Have you ever played an older rpg with a turnbased fighting mechanism and liked it, you should invest in this. Already a classic!

Octopath Traveler (Switch)

Different characters should interact with the world in different ways, and that's exactly the premise for Square Enix's latest old-school JRPG. Eight quirky characters await you on your journey, each with their own story and their own special ability they can use to overcome obstacles.

A JRPG with real depth to its world; Character abilities provide a sense of discovery; Combat is among the best in the genre

Minimal character interaction; Repetitive

Octopath Traveler

I give thanks to Family Friendly Gaming for purchasing a copy of Octopath Traveler on the Nintendo Switch. The PR and Marketing players who represent this game want no sales from the millions within FFGU ever. Will you respect that wish or not
