Nokia Lumia 610 review

Nokia's range of Windows Phone-based handsets is now quite rounded, with the top end Lumia 900 and the entry-level Lumia 610, which I'm reviewing here, topping and tailing a reasonably sized portfolio.
Pros:
  • Nice design
  • Decent screen resolution
  • Acceptable battery life
Cons:
  • Only 256MB of RAM memory
  • Refuses to run some top third-party apps
  • A little sluggish

Nokia Lumia 610 Windows Phone

Nokia's Lumia 610 may have a cheap price tag but it feels anything but that. This is a very well built smartphone that offers a slick user experience, but its low RAM results in some annoying limitations. Nokia appears to be the only manufacturer aggressively pushing the Windows Phone platform and part of this plan is a range of products at all price points. The Lumia 610 is the baby of the Lumia family and is currently the cheapest Windows Phone on the market in Australia. The Lumia 610 is a well built smartphone that offers a slick user experience, though its low RAM results in some annoying limitations.
Pros:
  • Good build quality
  • Great battery life
  • Smooth user experience
Cons:
  • Low RAM limits some apps
  • Mediocre screen
  • No front-facing camera

The Nokia Lumia 610 is the fourth Windows Phone smartphone to arrive in the UK, following the Lumia 800 , Lumia 710 and more recently the Nokia Lumia 900 . The previous trio shared dual-core processors, but had differing designs, storage and screen technology.

Nokia Lumia 610

It says "Nokia" across the top of the handset, but if you covered this label and asked us which company designed this model, we'd have guessed that it came from the team at HTC. Nokia Lumia 610 review: Nokia Lumia 610

With its fast, responsive user experience and superb camera, the Lumia 610 could be the perfect handset for new smartphone users, or those just looking for a bargain. It says "Nokia" across the top of the handset, but if you covered this label and asked us which company designed this model, we'd have guessed that it came from the team at HTC. Our black-coloured Lumia 610 review unit looks uncannily like the HTC Mozart; one of the first Windows Phone handsets we reviewed after the platform launched at the end of 2010. This design is far more interesting if you can find it in Nokia's neon cyan-blue colour option, but, either way, it serves its purpose well nonetheless. The 610's plastic chassis is stiff and solid feeling, with a battery cover that wraps around the base of the phone and creeps up onto the front.
Pros:
  • Outstanding camera at this price
  • Responsive user experience
  • Nokia Drive with turn-by-turn directions
  • Affordable.
Cons:
  • Colour-banding issue on LCD
  • Limited RAM blocks some apps from installing.

Nokia Lumia 610

The Nokia Lumia 610 is a budget Windows Phone mobile - and the cheapest big-name Windows phone to date. Sacrifices under the hood have been made to get there, but this is one of just a few Windows phones you can get SIM-free without spending a fortune.
Pros:
  • Windows Phone looks good
  • Neat design
  • Good social networking integration
Cons:
  • Awful games support
  • Some stuttery lag
