Nokia 1 Review

At $85, the Nokia 1 ticks nearly all the boxes for a perfect budget phone.

Attractive price point; Removable battery; Multiple color options with Xpress-on covers; Solid performance

Underwhelming cameras

Nokia 1

The Nokia 1 isn't a phone that's going to grab the headlines at MWC 2018 this year, but it could well take the developing world by storm with its bargain basement price tag and promise of decent performance from a super cheap smartphone.

Super cheap; Android Go works with lesser specs

Slow load times; Design is uninspired

Compact and durable The Nokia 1 has a compact 4.5" display and this keeps the phone small, making it ideal for slipping into a pocket or bag. This Nokia phone is 9.5mm thick and very light at 131g. Fill in the form and be the first to know when the Nokia 1 is released .

The Nokia 1 is not only the most affordable Android Nokia smartphone to date, it also is the first device from Finnish company HMD Global 's stables to run Android Oreo Go edition, a version of Android designed with budget smartphones in mind.

Nokia's phalanx of smartphone launches covers the full gamut of the smartphone spectrum this MWC, from the rarefied air of the glass-clad Nokia 8 Sirocco to the retro charms of this year's 1990s throwback – the Nokia 8110 but it's the firm's more reasonably priced handsets that have caught the eye...

Nokia 1 Smartphone Review

The limited internal storage and RAM is offset by Android Oreo (Go Edition) which gives users more storage space and memory than traditional Android. There may be problems with exchanging data with a computer of which you should be aware.

removable battery; long battery life; swappable back covers; affordable price; lean OS; many LTE bands; decent GPS; high contrast and color accurate display; dual-SIM; dedicated microSD card slot

issues with PC data transfer; not all microSD cards are compatible; frequent noticeable stutters; slightly delayed reaction to inputs

Nokia 1: Android Go and weak hardware still doesn't cut it

The Nokia 1 is by every measure an entry-level smartphone. Launching in Europe for just 99 euros (around $115), it relies on the simplest hardware, but still aims to be a successful smartphone solution for many users. Will this work We investigate in this hands-on review.

Complete package; Latest software

Lacking performance
