Nikon Z6

Nikon say the Z6 is "perhaps the most adaptable camera we’ve ever created", and the combination of features they've packed into this mirrorless camera seems to back up that claim.

Interchangeable and unbeatable lenses

Much of the adaptability of any camera comes down to interchangeable lenses, and what they offer across the board. The Z6 is no exception, with a larger Z Mount and shorter flange focal distance allowing the renowned NIKKOR Z lenses to provide incredible sharpness and detail at any aperture, and superb results in low light.

Keep your eye on the prize

On the Z6, a new customizable menu appears inside the viewfinder, so you can easily adjust settings such as focus modes, white balance, exposure and VR settings, without having to take your eye off the prize shot.

New and improved autofocus

The new hybrid autofocus switches between autofocus modes to fine-tune the clarity of the final shot to an even greater degree. Meanwhile, light-shielding phase detection pixels are arranged to provide more accurate autofocus in dim lighting.

Steady shots

Vibration Reduction (VR) overcomes the "shakes", and the better the VR, the better the shot. VR in the Nikon Z6 is superior to most, and is available in whatever NIKKOR Z lens you choose, while optical and electronic VR combine for steadier video footage.

Making movies

The Z6 can capture 16:9 4K UHD/30p video in full-frame. In other words, cinema-quality video footage - sharp, clean and alive with colour. You’ll feel like you've been making movies when you see the stunning results.

Nikon Z6 review

The Nikon Z6 is always going to be somewhat overshadowed by the more powerful and higher-resolution Z7, but actually it's a much more versatile camera, as well as being much more affordable.

12fps burst mode; Superb high-ISO quality; In-body stabilisation; Full frame 4K video; Stellar Z-mount lenses

Weak 310-shot battery life; Average buffer capacity; Some viewfinder lag

Nikon Z6

 Those who are loyal to Nikon as a brand have found this camera to be truly one of the best. Its build quality is also outstanding. It gives detailed images with natural colors, especially skin tones. Nikon's colors are always a standout, and the Z6 follows this tradition.

Provides a high-resolution EVF; Touchscreen interface for ease of use; 12fps burst shooting for quick imagery; Amazing performance of the AF system and sensor; In-body image stabilization good for handheld shooting

Only has a single memory card slot; Battery life limited compared to a DSLR; Provides very few native lens selections

The Nikon Z series . There are gobs of reviews out for this camera already and many have praised it, few have critiqued it but that’s just a sign of the times. First, all camera today at this level are great for image quality. Each brand has their own flavor, their own style and mojo.

Nikon Z6 review: Fabulous full-framer

Arguably the most well considered and capable of any full-frame mirrorless camera on the market. Nikon has got the lens mount right, the quality right and, despite strong competition from Sony's well-established range and Panasonic's forthcoming S1, we think any photographer would be mad to not give the Z6 a look in.

Great image quality; Huge potential from new Z mount lenses; Adapter for old lenses; Ease of use for existing Nikon users; Fast autofocus/burst mode (12fps); Silent shooting possible; Electronic viewfinder is of great quality and scale; Highly capable autofocus system;

Single XQD card slot an odd choice; 24-70mm f/4 lens vignettes a little; DSLR continuous AF still has the edge; Not a full vari-angle screen (tilt only); Better battery life would be great; No EyeAF autofocus; It’s rather expensive;
