Nikon's Z series goes from strength to strength. Michael Topham offers his verdict on the Nikon's first APS-C mirrorless camera

The Z50 is a capable and comfortable camera to use, for a wide range of photography. The autofocus system is a little more awkward than it needs to be, but generally it's a hugely competitive camera. If the lenses you want to use exist, it should be on your list of cameras to consider.

Autofocus struggles in low light; Few native DX lenses at launch

The Nikon Z50 enters the APS-C mirrorless market with the wide-diameter Z-mount introduced for the full-frame Z6 and Z7. Two dim variable-aperture DX lenses were introduced with the Z50, although it works withe all native Z-mount lenses.

The Z50 is a good debut for Nikon’s Z mount APS-C mirrorless system. Unfortunately, it’s entering a very competitive market and faces some strong competition, particularly Fujifilm’s X-T30.
