REVIEW: Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR

Click on the thumbnails for a high resolution image Gary Wolstenholme takes a look at Nikon's latest telephoto offering for DX format cameras. Until the introduction of this lens, Nikon camera users requiring a lens that covers focal lengths up to 300mm to complement their existing kit lens had a...

Decent optical performer; Good build quality for a consumer lens; Light weight

Lens extends and focus ring rotates during AF; Delay before VR system kicks in properly

i would buy this product again and again

The lens is great for using at sports events and for taking macro pictures. It takes amazing focused pictures as well. The only thing bad about this lens is that it is very hard to focus.

Good for sports games; Great shots of insects

Hard to focus

Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR review

Most telephoto zoom lenses designed specifically for APS-C rather than full-frame DSLRs have a zoom range of about 50-200mm. This gives them an effective zoom range of 75-300mm on Nikon camera bodies such as the D3100 and D5100 , very close to the classic telephoto zoom range of 70-300mm on...

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR

At the 55mm end of the zoom range, the angle of view is 28° 50', which is a little bit tighter than that of an 80mm lens on a 35mm body.

Extra zOOm a Mother could love...

The extra 100mm focal length definitely adds and increases quality and range of shots. A friends Mother has tried this lense and loves it also. When lent to Her for evaluation my fear was of never getting it back!

Easy To Use; Extra range of shots; Improves Picture Quality

Slight increase in weight

Practical Lens To Own

This is definitely the practical lens to own. It is low priced and gives excellent picture quality. The closest focusing distance is 1.4 m for you to closely capture the best moments with your beloved ones.

" I love this lens "

Totally amatuer photographer that knows just enough about cameras and photography to snap a truly memorable pic every now and then. Lens offers the opportunity to create nice pics for daylight portraits/landscapes and fast action sports, but I struggle to get any keepers in low-light fast action...
