I bought this used lens for my grandson. I gave him my old Nikon D80 camera and am teaching him how to use Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and ISO in various scenes to get great resulting images.

Excellent piece of kit

I have an 18 - 55 mm standard kit lens and a 55 - 200 mm telephoto lens. Sometimes, however, a standard lens with a little more reach is extremely useful and often saves having to change lenses in mid shoot. This does exactly that and I can see this lens becoming my standard "go to" lens.
Pros:
  • Consistent Output
  • Durable
  • Easily Interchangeable
  • Lightweight
  • Quick Focus
  • Rugged
  • Sharp Focus
  • Strong Construction

Perfect Christmas gift

I bought this for my wife. The price, order process, and delivery were great. The Nikkor 18-105 provided just the right flexibility she wanted to take some great shots of the grand kids this Christmas.

Nikkor AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR - Review / Test Report

The Nikkor AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR offers a nice package of a comfortable focal range, optical stabilization and very high resolution figures. On the downside there're rather pronounced distortion and CAs. The build quality is Ok but not really something to rave about either.

Have just received the lens and it feels sturdy, have not had the chance to test it outdoors however when paired to my d5100 and using the video on live view if pressing the shutter and re-focusing the noise is quite substantial. Not saying it's faulty but worth noting for video oriented buyers.

Very fragile

After 40 years of professional photography and using Nikon cameras in or shop, I decided to switch brands from "the other guys" to Nikon and purchased a D90, which serves me fairly well in a variety of situations, including artifact photography for a museum. I use a Speedlight SB-700 with it.
