I bought this for family use, mainly for this price, weight and Image Quality. Today after some month of use, I'm very happy with it, and I've extended its use to more artistic pictures, only in certain circumstances of course.
- Zoom range
- price and quality
- its plastic mount
- Today I can't take my nikon D90 from the lens, may be broken for that
"Nikon 18-105 gives great pictures at a surprisingly low price."
The 18-105 is one of Nikon's kit lenses - cheaper lenses that often come as part of a kit with a camera. Currently on Amazon at £249.99 this is a (relatively!) cheap lens from Nikon.- Cheap
- light
- good general image quality
- Slight loss of image quality at extremes
The only lens I really need!
I most recently shot a wedding with this lens on my Nikon d5100, along with a SB-700 Speedflash. The lens was easy to handle and gave me a wide focal range, which allowed me to use one lens and not fuss around with using a second camera or changing lenses.- Consistent Output
- Slow Focus
Nikon Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Lens: A very good 'kit' lens but not for artistic photos.
an excellent starter lens - but upgrade for more artistic shots- Excellent Starting Lens
- Variable aperture reduces flexibility
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Review
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a good alternative to an 18-55mm kit lens; it's sharp throughout its zoom range, and affordable. The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR ($399.95 direct)($309.00 at Amazon) is Nikon's take on a popular lens design—the enhanced kit lens. Most SLRs ship with an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom that cuts some corners in its manufacturing quality and optical design in order to keep costs down. This longer zoom design generally comes in at a higher price point, but is well-built, and has better optics, but still retains a rather modest f/3.5-5.6 aperture. The Nikkor 18-105mm doesn't quite offer the zoom range of competing 18-135mm lenses, but it's sharp and priced more reasonably than others in this class, including the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM($364.00 at Amazon). The lens measures 3.5 by 3 inches (HD) and weighs 14.8 ounces. It uses 67mm front filters, and includes a lens hood. The close focus distance is 1.5 feet at all focal lengths; working that close will allow you to create a shallow depth of field, even with the modest aperture. It is compatible with Nikon DX ...- Very sharp
- Vibration reduction system
- Sturdy build
- Attractive price
- Competing lenses feature 18-135mm zoom range
- Some distortion
- Softer edges at longer focal lengths

I bought this used lens for my grandson. I gave him my old Nikon D80 camera and am teaching him how to use Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and ISO in various scenes to get great resulting images.
Excellent piece of kit
I have an 18 - 55 mm standard kit lens and a 55 - 200 mm telephoto lens. Sometimes, however, a standard lens with a little more reach is extremely useful and often saves having to change lenses in mid shoot. This does exactly that and I can see this lens becoming my standard "go to" lens.- Consistent Output

Perfect Christmas gift
I bought this for my wife. The price, order process, and delivery were great. The Nikkor 18-105 provided just the right flexibility she wanted to take some great shots of the grand kids this Christmas.
