Nikon AF-S 85mm F1.8G Lens 85MM F1.8G LENS review
Consequently, the new model now offers a silent wave AF drive, which makes it compatible with the complete range of current Nikon DSLRs. Even though the largest pressure to update the lens may have come from DX customers, a 85mm prime traditionally is a classic portrait focal length on full frame...

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G
Nikon's series of f/1.8G prime lenses is a boon to photographers who use the company's D-SLR cameras . Each one we've tested has been a solid performer, and affordably priced. The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G is no different.
Pros:
- Excellent sharpness
- Minimal distortion
- Wide aperture
- Inexpensive
Cons:
- Lacks optical stabilization
- Limited close focus capability

Great Lens and super sharp
Awesome lens for the price. Focus can be a little slow but faster than the Nikon 50mm 1.4. Needed to auto fine tune as apparently there can be issues with back/front focusing which I had with my sample. Once checked and set focus is accurate and the lens is super sharp. My new favourite lens.
Pros:
- Great Features
- Great Picture Quality

Is there a six star option
"I bought this lens a while back on a whim knowing that I should probably kit myself out with an 85mm at some point. The price was right and all of the reviews made it pretty clear that this was one of the best lenses in its class.

85mm f/1.8G AF-S FX Nikkor Lens
I bought this lens to use with my DX-format D40 and FX-format N80. I needed a fast portrait lens with AF and metering, hence the choice. From a very limited testing so far, I can say this is a great addition to my bag of lenses.
Pros:
- Easily Interchangeable
- Extremely Sharp
- Strong Construction
Cons:
- No Vr Feature

This is my favorite lens on the D800. (I've never tried the 85/1.4G, though) The handling, weight and "feel" to this combination simply makes shooting a pure pleasure, and it provides fantastic IQ! A great-value nobrainer. Love it!
Pros:
- Awesome lens for flattering portraits and great for landscapes too
- Sharpness is excellent, clearly better than the old 1.8D-version in the open end
- Pleasant bokeh, contrast and colours
- Only 350g and a delight to handle
Cons:
- I'd liked it to have 9 blades of course
- but 7 rounded is ok

Great lens for your kit!
I use this lens on my Nikon D5100 for natural light portraits and grandkids volleyball & basketball photos. Focus speed is good in qym lighting. Although I haven't completely tested it, some reviews show best sharpness & quality at f4 to f8. Very pleased with results so far.
Pros:
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Nice Bokeh
